I have a question about USMLE step one preparation. If I start my 1st semester @ st george in Jan and I am lucky to survive, I should finish 5th and 6th semester @ St vincent in May. My questions are : Do I have enough time to prepare for the usmle step 1 and take the review courses? When is the best time of taking step 1 after finishing 5th and 6th terms ? THanks.

I am a jan student, and I think that we are done with vinnies in December. We are only there for 4 months. I think. NOt sure how this will affect your decision or board prep time, or mine for that matter

if you enter in january, you finish vinnies in december - then you have until may to do the usmle. I think entry into clinicals starts in may/june for january people, and august for others.

then you would finish in may and start rotation in august. so that gives you 2-3 months

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! thats too funny, don't worry you will have plenty of time to study for the USMLE's I mean thousands of people have been through this route... Your main concern should be passing all your classes first. I mean you haven't even gotten to a single class yet and you are already worried about USMLE's. Try crawling first before you worry about walking...
Since you are in the August class then you have the same amount of time as US students to study for the USMLE's, whatever that time might be it will be plenty of time since thousands of people are doing it every year... So worry about passing Anatomy and Biochem, and Histo and Embryo, plus doing all the ** work for clinical skills and proffesional development classes, before worring if you will have enough time to study for the boards...Because if you don't pass your classes you won't even get to take the boards.
Kids these days... enough said :fight:

Yes you would have enough time to prepare for the USMLE course, provided you took your Basic Sciences classes seriously enough. However, if you are doubtful of yourself, there are always Kaplan courses that you can also take at the end of Term 6, in the US which are basically a full review of everything that you did before.
The best part is that you will not be the only person doing it. Your colleagues will also provide a really great support system for you.
