I am thinking about applying to SGU but I have two young children, ages nine and six. Are there any schools specifically for SGU dependents, or do kids go to local Grenadian schools? Also, my wife is a Japanese citizen but holds a US permanent resident visa ("Green Card"). Is this something to be concerned about? Thanks for the help!

I think I remember hearing during the open house that they have a school/day care for the SGU staff and student dependents. K-?. I could be wrong though.

Yes, the SO's (Significant Others) do run some sort of day care program in Grand Anse... I think your children would be too old for this though. I recommend contacting the SO's directly:

From the SO Guide:

Some children attend the Westmoreland Private School. There is also a Mennonite run school in the Limes neighborhood. Home schooling is also a popular choice here on the island. Contact the family coordinator for more information on school choices.

There aren't specific schools for SGU kids, but some students and profs send their kids to the Menonite school near Excel plaza.

From the "Welcome" booklet in the acceptance package. "There are both public and private schools in Grenada. American students have enrolled in private schools such as Westmoreland School and Kay Dee's or in public schools such as Presentation Brothers and St. Joseph's Covenant. Majority of American children attend Westmoreland. Local students from the above schools have received scholarships to both American and English schools after completing their education on the island."

I will be attending in the fall of this year. We will be sending our kids to the Beacon Learning Center (used to be kids learning center) or to Westmoreland. One thing to keep in mind is that Westmoreland is quite expensive. We have talked to both schools and have heard good things about both. The phone number for Beacon is 473-435-0026.
