I'm from NJ, about 25 min. from manhattan, used to live a lot closer. Any way, don't worry too much about the housing, the school will help you out there, because they have a list of housing that's available on the island, so they will try to accomodate to your needs. The school has no dorms. The island is small and quaint. The locals will recognize you in time. You will be distinguished as a med student, and a "local" instead of a tourist. Getting around the island is simple, you either walk, ride a bike, ride a golf cart, ride a scooter, or take a taxi. There are many restaraunts on the island. Much of the food that's available in the states is available there. The tv is cable, and includes the premium channels as well as some of the NY stations, like fox, and nbc, nice to get a taste of home every now and again, so you're not completely out of the loop as to what's happening back home. The island is fairly safe, I've never had any problems. The school is good with a good faculty. They know their material. I'll be starting my second semester in May. The vacation time and the semester time really flies. I'll be done before I know it. Only 4 more semesters to go.
