I think its a must--public transportation is a minivan with 6 seats. Good luck with that.

do most people rent cars when they are there for the semester? if so, how much does this cost roughly?

Some people do rent cars but you would save money by just buying a cheap car overall. I don't know the prices for renting a car. I ride my bike to school every day and that takes me about 15 minutes to get to school from the dorm. The weather is really hot and people who do ride their bikes come to class sweating. I personally would suggest buying a cheap car because students complain about paying 2.50US for a bus a ride to school and another $2.50US from school. Also be aware that the bus stop running at a certain time, so having a car really relieves some stress that people who ride bikes, catch buses and cabs, or walks have to deal with.

I take the bus to school everyday. It is not really a big deal except for holidays because less buses run. I think it all comes down to how early you wake up to get to class. If you leave about an 45min-1 hr before class starts. You can definitely catch a bus and make it to school on time, if not earlier.
I think bike riding is also a reasonable form of transportation. Riding the bus to school everyday is exhausting. But if you vary it with taking the bus once in a while. I think it should be fine.
being from New York city...stuck in traffic all time. I think im just sick of driving :!:

Well, anyone who is coming down this fall, are you planning on staying in the RH?
Cause I thought it might be a decent idea to rent a car with 2-3 students on a similar class scehdule.
Also I'd rather not spend alot of time walking around, like to the grocery store and the gym, I'd like to have as much time to study as possible. Besides, the extra cardio is gonna take away from my lifting strength anyway :)
