Hey everyone: Wolf came over last night and let me know that most everyone had heard I was having to leave Saba for a semester so I wanted to let evryone know why from me , instead of hearing stories from evryone else. Ive been at Saba for almost a week now and we are going back home this morning. Last week before coming to Saba to begin 1st semester, I had a tiny flat mole taken off my side that was rubbing underneath my workout tops and bothering me..... The night after the Saba orientation the surgeon that removed the mole got in touch with me in Saba to let me know that the path report on that spot, (which was about 2mm wide) was melanoma, clarks stage 2 and that I needed a wide excision of the area and a sentinal node biopsy right away... So,, we are going home to have this done . The Saba Dean and administration have been very understanding, compassionate and accomodating. I dont think that I can get this done and be back for the 1st gross anatomy exam in 10 days so I thought that it was best to get this taken care of, get well and then come back in Septemeber.. My landlord is keeping my apt for me so everything is just on hold til I get back. Thats the true story directly from the source. Thanks to the beer fairy and cleanpress and wolfgang for your concerns and support!! To the women of the world in search of an awesome guy.................. the beer fairy and cleanpress are some great men!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :))))))) Wolf is too, but he's spoken for!! Anyway, leaving Saba at 7:30 this morning. Good luck all first semesters, sorry I wont be in your class.. :( ~Niki
Safe travels home and take care of yourself!

My wife went through the same experience just a couple of weeks ago. We are awaiting the Path report on the sentinel lymph node biopsy. I wish you all the best. Get well and Saba will be there when you are ready.
Everyone else out there should take a hint and use sun screen religiously and get themselves checked on a regular basis.
Best of Luck!

Thanks for all your support and prayers. Yes, I have been a MAJOR tanner for years, even had a tanning bed at home  . I figured I didnt smoke or do drugs, so Id tan :))) We are getting several consults to find the right surgeon. We have two more to go to and then we will probably schedule the surgery next week. Ill keep you all updated and yes, Ill see ya in Sept.. Nate is saving me a shady tanning spot in his back yard!! I MISS YOU TOO MAN!!!!!! Keep praying... The docs so far think all is ok. The path report said the margins were clear of any melanoma cells. The wide excision and sentinal bx is just to make sure everything is ok....which Im thinking positive!!

Thank you so much! That is very sweet of you! I appreciate your concern! Be blessed!!
In my many years of anesthesia I have seen a lot of people have the same thing. In fact, one of the staff anesthesiologist had the same thing many years ago. I know it is scary but hang in there and dont let this minor set back cause you to loose your dream! I will personally say a prayer for you tonight that everything will be ok. And thank you soo much for giving me advise and notes before you left to go to SABA. Your compasion and willingness to help others will soon be rewarded. I just know it.

Good news. I met with my surgeon today for my preop. apparently, this was detected very early. The lesion was clarks level 2, but the stage was 1a and does not even warrant the sentinal node biopsy, because the breslows thickness was .4mm and it needs to be 1mm or deeper to warrant the sentinal node biopsy. I never paid attention to that stuff in PA school cuz I didnt want to stop laying in the sun.. Ill listen now...:)) The surgeon said the recovery from this early detection is "remarkable". I was very excited about the news, someone is listening to the prayers!!! The wide surgical excision is scheduled for next thursday. Today I had my bloodwork, which included a chem panel, LDH(which is elevated if there are cancer cells in the blood) and a CXR. Will keep ya posted. Good luck first semesters on the up coming gross anatomy exam!!

Congrats on an excellent prognosis. My wife got her Path report back last week and she too is all clear. The scars from her excision and sentinel node biopsy are healing well and the feeling is coming back to her skin.
Best of Luck!

Hi all! I had my surgery last Thursday and it wasnt that bad. The incision is kinda long. I wasnt suposed to look at it, but I had to see it. Its sewn together very nicely and I am hoping it will heal well, its under my arm so thats a good thing. Its just sore, I never had too much pain, just a little discomfort. The path report is not back yet, but Im praying and believing all will be well. Thanks for all your prayers!
Researching guy, how is your wife? you guys are in my thoughts and prayers.
Wolf: sorry to hear about the lab practical and the first semester class honeymoon is over. Unfortunatley, I think that is just life. Youll all get the same degree in the end, if people want to act like high schoolers, then so be it, right? I think that you have to remember that we are much older than the majority of the students there.. Just do the best you can and thats all you can do. As far as cliques, just be glad you are past that pathetic stage in your life and that you dont have to go thru it again  looking forward to seeing you in Sept!!!! Keep studying. Im praying for ya!

Man I can't believe how many responses your post has gotten! All this over a little mole.... come on people! I have a pic of hot goat action and no one seems to care!
Ok before everyone blows up at me, I adore and care very much for dreamdoc, and she is a big fan of the goat pic. I miss her very much and that is why I've taken to cuddling goats in the meantime to dull the pain of her absence....

diver as in scuba diving or as in spring board diving? I used to dive in HS as well as swim.....in college i only swam bc we didnt have a diving team. I'm actually coaching a swim camp this summer while i wait for a clinical spot :D

I'm a scuba diver, not a spring board diver. The irony is that while I can jump into an ocean of large fish with sharp teeth I can't dive off of a board. I don't dive into water at all.
Where are you teaching lessons? Maybe I should come take some. hahah.
I just tried putting a face on here and it erased my whole response. I hope it doesn't go ahead and post it twice now. *sigh*
