I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, since it has been at least a week since the subjest has come up.

If SMU were the school described in the CA report, I would agree. However, there are a multitude of inaccuracies as detailed here:

I have no interest in SMU or California, however, this issue illustrates the bigger picture.

Individual people using subjective criteria to determine one's fate in medicine is WRONG. All this talk about FSMB meetings, new laws, state approvals, really are biased and discriminatory.

The only standard objective way to evaluate whether one is capable of practicing medicine in the U.S. is the USMLE 1, 2CS, 2CK, Board Certification, and completion of residency without negative incident. That is fair, equal to everyone ((US and FMG), and that is what I believe all students should fight for. Anyone who meets these 5 criteria should be allowed to practice medicine anywhere in the U.S, irrespective of which school they graduated from, because we very well know there are people from their native home countries school with far inferior standards than most offshore schools, succussfully practicing medicine.

The California thing is just another needle in the haystack for SMU. It is a big mistake for Cali to deprive the state of allowing SMU grads to practice there. It mainly lies on the individual to become a good doctor the school merely shows you how to get there. Your endeavor not the state board that gets you there. SMU has a great admin and despite the Cali problem they continue to build up their program. I think it is just a matter of time that they will get their cali approval. Besides, there's 49 more states you can get in to. If TX, NM, AZ, CO, won't take you, there's still 45 states left. Bottom line, if there's a will, there's a way!

"you are fired" I agree with you 100%.
98% of the states will judge you based on your qualifications, except for CA most if not all will waive any requirements if a doctor is qualified.
California officials will say "we are fair" the unapproved grads will say "stop discriminating against us",the grads from approved schools will say "CA is fair ",the supreme court judges in OK will say "you state board doing unconstitutional thing to qualified grads",and Indiana residency directors will say "evaluate each candidate based on case by case,we are in near crisis" and so on....
the bottom line:
if any doctor completed MD degree, passed and get certified by the ECFMG,completed residency, certified by a speciality board as an expert, and held license for 5 years in the US,anyone denies such doctor a license and gives new grad from micky mouse school in Africa or the Middle East a license based on the country and school of graduation I ask you to consult with equal rights experts to define such acts.
The late Jonny Cochran became multi millionaire thanks to the countless discrimination lawsuits he won against CA state, and in all cases the state officials said "we are fair and trying to protect our citizens"!!!!!
