my major concern about attending SMU is the availability of a back up option. if i happened to fail the USMLE after my two years of basic sciences, then i obviously cannot continue to complete my third and fourth year rotations in the U.S. but what are other options regarding completing the md degree (third and fourth year rotations) if one was unsuccessful on their USMLE attempt? are there places that accepts students for rotations without a board exam? or would it just be two years wasted? this is my main concern.

What options are available to you at any medical school. I dont think you have a choice, you have to pass the USMLE exams. It is part of the long and difficult process of becoming a physician.

Although it's easier said than done: TRY NOT TO WORRY ABOUT THINGS THAT HAVEN'T HAPPENED YET! There's probably enough to deal with at the moment.

AUC has rotations in the UK, but I don't think you gan go until you have passed the boards. I don't know about other schools. Keep in mind that if you fail any step more than 3 times, you are probably not going to get a license. I know you want to know what your options are, but if you fail the USMLE step 1 twice right after basic sciences, then your chances of passing after clinicals are dismal. You just don't use a lot of that material very much.

You can probably find a school that will let you rotate. My suggestion is that you don't. G

With all due respect, I think your main concern should be studying so you don't fail. Take it easy, one step at a time.Most legit schools will not let you continue without completing your USMLE step 1. It's like a prereq to move on. It's done for your own sake, as well as school's stats. Why do you think you will not be successful on USMLE, if you do the work at school? Even to get that far, you'd need to pass all of your individual classes in all 5 semesters.You will also get a review of all the high yield stuff that matters. THINK POSSITIVE!
