Hi,
Do you know if Nevada is AUC friendly? I would be interested in doing clinicals or especially a residency in Nevada.
Thanks.

It looks like there was at least one residency Match in NV, in Reno. Scan through the list and you may find more...

If you're concerned about the prospects in Nevada you should e-mail MEAS. They know about the laws in various states and whether or not previous AUC students have rotated and/or done residencies there.

I think that's a bit optimistic... or maybe more than a bit. I would check with the Nevada agency in charge of licensing. I certainly wouldn't take MEAS's word for it, they have been known to poo-poo many issues that later turned out to be quite important. When questioned about it, they always say it is the student's responsibility to make sure they follow the licensing rules for each state. They accept no responsibility for it, but will accept all the credit for it.
Also, students have been pointed to various hospitals for clinical electives, only to find out that our students in particular, or foreign/Carib students in general are not accepted there. Don't wait. You will run into alot of these hurdles, and waiting as they suggest until 6 months prior to when you want to rotate to begin the application process will severely limit your choices... alot of these places fill up very very quickly, especially if they only allow a few outside students in at a time. I know I will be hoping to have many of my clinical electives finished before I get to the 6 month-ahead point... heck, it can easily take 3-5 months just to get a rotation approved!

hey, once of my classmates did IM at Univ Nevada Reno ( followed by adult GI fellowship at Tulane )
also I personally know a peds ER doc ( AUC grad ) that is working in Las vegas
don't know about clinicals.
My message re: clinicals is just get them done, anywhere you can ASAP and move on to residency. Obviously, nevada is possible since I know a girl that worked there (BTW, she went to Epsom, UK for MS3 )

Checking with MEAS is a good idea, but you definitely need to do your own research. I am not extremely optimistic when it comes to MEAS, but I suggest that you contact them since they know the track record of AUC students in Nevada; information that would be extremely difficult to dig up on your own.
