I ordered mine from barnes and noble, and med students can get a 5% discount if you use the American Medical Student Association barnes and noble website at http://btob.barnesandnoble.com/index.asp?sourceid=0039357741&btob=y
Try the site its worth it and they are very reliable.....

I would also suggest using Amazon.com. In this case, you must buy new texts, but the shipping fee seems to be very reasonable. I am not sure when you are starting, but you may also try buying from half.com. They offer used books at pretty good prices. I ordered all of my first semester books from that website, and I was very happy with everything. However, I turned to Amazon.com for second semester books since I didn't return home during break. This allowed me to have the books delivered directly to the island.
As for using U Books, I will give one quick example story. As a naive first semester student, I couldn't find a copy of the "Informatics" text used from half.com. I ended up purchasing the book new from U Books. That text alone cost nearly more than what I spent on all of my other books from half.com. I later found out that I didn't even need the Informatics text!!

You guys had a text for informatics?
Hmm...we didn't. Handouts - that's what we had. Of course we also had a different prof...
I second the Amazon bid - I started to use them after my second semester and only ever had one problem getting my books to the island. Make sure you order early enough - about a month before the end of the previous semester. This will give them time to get there and you can make sure you're set for the upcoming semester, gives you time to call them if they don't get there on time, etc.
best of luck,

To all those second semester students or whomever else
should we just buy the required texts for first semester? Any additional books needed?

For 1st semester, I would not buy any books except an anatomy atlas.
Just focus on Dr. S's lecture notes, you will get an A in his class. I did.
For histology, his power point slide is more than enough.
