Seems to be the case that St. Lucia is one of the more affordable islands in the Caribbeans when it comes to housing. I found a fully furnished private one bedroom suite with all utilities and cable TV included for $320 USD per month. Another student is paying $350 USD for a two bedroom suite. Getting a roommate or two to split the cost will mean dirt cheap accomodation during your time on the island.
St. Lucia is on the bigger side of an island in comparison to others in the Caribbean, it's also tourism-geared- I heard that food is generally better and cheaper, but slightly more expensive than US regardless.
Not completely sure at all, I'm starting this September. But from what I calculated, it seems like I would be able to get by fine with $1000 USD per month (housing, food, local transportation, allowance, etc).
Sounds a lot better than $1000 USD per month dormitories of AUC!!
