diving question

Can anyone clarify a diving question for me? The student handbook said something like .... foreign non- Antillian dive certifications will be honored for only 3 months before you have to get an Antillian certification. I find that strange. Ive dove all over the world and PADI certifications are recognized everywhere. Im sure that there must be some misunderstanding so would someone please clarify this for me. Thanks!!!

All three dive shops on the rock recognize the PADI certification... I have never heard about that 3 month scenario.

I think that three month thing is like a vacation dive certification or something.

PADI, as ducman said, is recognized. I believe RADI is as well. Don't worry, you can dive to your heart's delight. I know Sea Saba and Saba Divers give student discounts, I think Saba Deep might as well, not sure. I dove with Sea Saba and they were great. Unfortunately I didn't get a dive in before I left the island my last semester -Lynn as Sea Saba even ragged me for that! Oops! I did get a snorkel in my last day there through. :D Got to take someone snorkling for his first time and we hit Well's Bay - no visits from that mean lookin' baracudda (sp?), thank goodness, though I think I saw a shark out there...

....obviously didn't bother us, as I'm still alive and all parts are accounted for. :wink:

Take advantage of the diving on Saba while you can!! It's beautiful and if you have snorkel gear probably the cheapest diving you'll ever do!

Are you sure you're not reading something about the dRiving license, b/c that sounds very familiar. You can supposedly drive on your home drivers license for 3 months before having to get an Antillean license, however if you're getting a car, I recommend getting it ASAP, b/c they'll give you a ticket well ahead of that 3 month rule. If they really do have something saying that your diving is only good for 3 months, I think that's bunk. Take your PADI cert card to any of the dive shops and at most they'll just want to start you out slow or with a check-out dive to make sure you're skills are still fresh.
