Hi, all. Wanted to get a random sampling from students (not the AUC site) of typical monthly costs to live @ AUC.

Not interested in tuition, books, etc. Looking more for how much it costs average students for: reasonably decent housing, food, transportation, stuff (the stuff that you always need, just never thought to plan for), entertainment, and the like.

Just trying to get a general idea from as many as will grace me with a reply.

Thanks

Well, I pay $900/mo for my apartment, $400/mo on my leased Atos from Marshall Motors (many hate them because they got screwed, but they have taken care of me so far) then about 200+ on groceries, and about another $300-500 per month on going out to dinners, lunch, movies, etc. then maybe $10/mo on cell phone cards.

Hope this helps,
Ryan

i take out max loans (~23K) and at the end of the semester i save 5-6K so i average 17-18 a semester in expensiese, that is tutuion books and eveything..

now keep in mind that i do not limit myself, i bought a car, i go diving a few times a months and go out to eat/drink any time i want. \

I'm sorry but paying $400 a month for that POS car is just not bright. Oh well, to each his/her own. By the time you leave you're going to have spent $8000 on a car you don't own.

Wow.

Now I must reply!

Rent can cost anywhere from $800-$1200 for a one bedroom apartment. Utilities run between $80-200/month, depending on how much you use your AC. You can purchase a car for about $1200-(sky's the limit!). I can't even guess how much food and other expenses would run you because it all depends on how often you eat out, go out, etc.

Wow.

Well, I owned an "island" car here for 1 day. I returned it because it wouldnt pass inspection without another $800+. After that and seeing so many of my friends' cars here that have needed work from Henry "the duct tape machine". At least with the lease anytime we want our car washed (inside and out) oil changed (havent done it yet, oops), or any other maintenance, its covered along with the insurance. You need the insurance, even if you bring your own car, or they impound it when they pull you over.
I decided that paying a bit more is worth the safety of myself and my fiancee.

I guess if money is the only thing you're concerned about, that's fine. But you're right, to each his/her own.

i bought a car for 3500 (4x4, AC, powerlocks/windows pathfinder), i have put about 500-600 bucks of work into it, i plan on selling it for 3000. So i lose 1000-2000 bucks on the deal and you will pay 400 bucks a month and spend eight grand on a car that you can out right buy from the dealer for six?????

Are those things really only $6k from the dealer????

Actually, I think that's a bit overpriced for an Atos, but that's not exactly the point.

Yoda,
I'm coming in august and would be interested in purchasing the pathfinder after an inspection if you are selling it in august.

How hard is it to find a 2 foot green alien with a lightsaber and pointy ears? Probably just head up the nearest Star Trek convention.

Actually your not record holder of anything... There's an entire house of cheaparses living near tradewinds.

Last time I checked... 4 people living in a 2 bedroom place eating tuna all day.

I'd give you all their emails to contact but I think they're even too cheap to have email.
