I've been reading previous posts and I was wondering...in general, does the more money you spend on an apartment = less hassles (referring to all of the bad landlords I have read about)? Are there some apartments that are 100% utilities included (of course for more expensive rent)? I would rather live in comfort and only worry about 1 check a month and a little more debt than deal with the infamous "islanders" you guys talk about.

another general question...Seems to me, from previous posts again, that it is better to buy a students used car than to lease one. Sure there would be regular maintenance and minor repairs but are these things really expensive in SXM

point me to another post if I overlooked one as I see that you guys get sick and tired of responding so many times to the same questions.

Thanks

Sorry to say, more rent does not guarantee less hassles with crappy landlords. For instance, Cupecoy Beach Club is one of the more expensive places where you can rent, but the infamous landlord, who's name starts with a G, manages a few places there.

You would have to contact the Housing Office to see if there are any listings that include utilities, most don't.

Regarding cars...maintenance isn't too pricey. The locals work for pretty cheap. My husband and I went through Haitian Motors, a small place in Cole Bay close to the Harley dealership, and the owner, ****, did a pretty good job for fair prices. Most students go through mechanics that actually go to them and I haven't heard any of them complain about being charged too much.
