I was just curious as to whether the hospitals listed on the website was a complete list. I noticed in a previous thread, someone posted about additional sites in NY, but I still only see one listed. If there are additional sites that are not on the website, id love to know. I was hoping if there were, some one could post them.
Also, is there a location that you can do all of your rotations, or at least an area where you could commute to different hospitals without physically changing where you live.?

no it is not a complete list
providence in MI is a complete site
Kern in Cali
there are 5 new sites in NY...and i belive 3 are complete
I am not sure about this but I think you can manage doing all or most of your cores in Balt by going to a few hospitals.

they update the site once or twice a year so don't expect things up there right away

how about the elective rotations? Do most people move around a lot for these, or try to find a hospital at which they can complete all of them? For those hospitals that you said were complete, does that include elective, or is it core only?
Could you please post the name of the new ones in NY and if you know of their reputation.
Thanks

i dont know the names of the places....you call MEAS and ask them to give you a complete list
you can do electives where ever you want....
i believe some of the core places of electives too.....
but it is probably a good idea to go to a couple of the hospitals you want to get residency at and kiss some rear end or something.....

Actually its already been posted... just do a search for NY sites on the AUC forum and you can get all the sites and what they have.
Good luck,

i have the electives list and its pretty long. all the aquc core sites have multiple elective rotations there. the ones in baltomore and new york even have ortho, derm, and plastics but you can do them anywhere that has a acgme residency. given that we are in big cities with multiple hospitals for rotations i don't think you'l have to move if you don't want to/

I thought the same thing until I actually started looking into electives. A TON of hospitals/schools will not allow AUC students to do visiting student electives because we are not an LCME school (U.S. and Canadian).
I'd check into the specific places you want to go.

Carilion in Roanoke, VA is a place that offers Family Practice

True, but not all States are represented and several States only have one hospital listed. This can be difficult if you hope to do electives in one of these underrepresented States since most sites will only allow visiting students to do 4-8 weeks of electives. Granted, this list is not comprehensive, only a listing of places previous AUC students have rotated.
However, I have already found one hospital on the list that no longer takes foreign students.

what is a LCME school someone just listed?
what is the general outlook of students on their clinical clerkships? are students for the most part satisfied with the availability of placements?

Grace-which hospital is that?
I'd prefer not to say, as of yet, since MEAS is contacting them to see why they changed their policy. Hopefully all will work out so that my husband can rotate there.

LCME= Liason Committee on Medical Education
http://www.lcme.org/directry.htm
They accredite medical programs in the U.S. & Canada.

It seems like most people are satisfied with their core clinical site, once they've started. However, there are very few places in which AUC students can actually do cores, especially if you want to do cores in the South (only Family Medicine & Psych. available). Setting up core rotations is a slow process and I haven't seen many sites added since my husband started school at AUC 2 years ago. This has frustrated many students.
In regards to electives, you have a lot more flexibility. You can do electives at any place that will let you, granted they must meet requirements for the State(s) you want to practice in. The reason I brought up LCME accreditation is due to the fact that many U.S. medical schools will not let students from AUC do visiting student electives because we are non-LCME.

right but the list given to us are places where students have done 'double digit' rotations not a 4 week stint. if you want to stay in an area for electives go to a big city like new york, detroit, baltimore with multiple hospitals.
i agree that from a students persepective the issue of more clinical sites is painfully slow and would cause some of us to yell that they don't care and so on but from a business perspective its not that long to iron corporate contracts out in more than a year.
dr schnatz told me that the process is slow on both sides b/c us hospitals are weary of getting foreign students and on the school's part he travels to the sites and reviews them before even making an offer so couple that with the fact that these schools are cheap and want to low ball the hospitals and it makes for a long contract battle....
at least they just got the 5 snew sites in new york. too bad we lost the core site in louisiana that would have been an option for or red necked gritz lovin' crowd. i miss grits for breakfast by the way, i kind of got used to them.....toasted biscuits with sausage gravy, bacon , and grits...hmmmmmm
