I have a question regarding the interview for Saba. Although i'm sure most people who go to Saba were not able to gain admission to a Canadian or American school, how should this be addressed during an interview? If they ask you why you want to come to Saba, and you haven't applied to any Canadian or American schools (because you are sure you are unable to gain admission), should you say this straight up and be honest, or make up an alternate reason. Any feedback about this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Good question. I am in the same situation. I plan to tell them the truth if asked. I know that I am not a traditional applicant and have no chance at US schools. I also will tell them about some physicians I have worked with that are FMGs and they are as good or better clinicians. Anyway thats my take on it. Good luck.

be honest. let them know that you considered your options in regards to medical schools. saba is the right school for you and tell them why.

my opinion. hope it helps.

The interview should be a positive experience. Tell them specifically why you want to go to Saba instead of the 100 other foreign schools you could be applying to. Tell them what you can bring. Be ready to explain any problems you have had or why you may be changing careers, but don't walk in apologizing because you didn't get into a US school.

Though some people regularly apply to Caribbean schools as a back-up if they don't get accepted to a US school, most folks who are applying are pretty much out of the running back home. You really don't have to mention this as it is pretty well understood.

Best of Luck!

Sid, Wait until you get here, then you'll understand why I joke around about goats so much. And just to forewarn you, the locals value the goats lives more than yours. They will swerve to miss a goat and the road and hit you, and not feel bad about it.

I would guess that the island's goat population is many times the human population!!! They are everywhere!!!

So can we eat the goats or would we be prosecuted for doing so?

Only if you buy the goat first. Seems that on ancient Saba, the goat was a revered diety called "Eddy the Goat boy"

Oh man...that is discrimination against humanity.....i guess the goats are worth more on the rock then human........do the goats have a union....

OK goat lovers,

If those of you who are new to the island think there are a lot of goats now, you should have been ther when I arrived in May,2003. The islanders culled the "herd" in August/September 2004 and it made a HUGE difference. The bottom of my shoes became goat-poop free!

Remember to try the goat stew at Scouts Place. :) Free tuition to anyone who can catch a goat bare-handed!

I guess I will let my roommate know about the free tuition offer. He was photographed yesterday with a small goat wrapped in his arms!!

Free tuition huh? I didn't think it was that hard to catch a goat..... I've petted or drive-by swatted a few already. I'll try and put the pic up of me and the goat. I'd take free beer though.....
