I have a questions concerning which class you enter in, and how that effects the your clinical and residency positions. I know the most residencies start in July, and that some of the more competitive clinical locations take students at a certain time. So after the 20 months on the island is up, is there ever a probably finding a clinical location to go to right away. Ideally I will not take off to study for step 1, I would like to get it out of the way ASAP. THen after you finish your clinicals, what do you do if it doesnt coincide with residency appointments. I am just confused as to which semester allows for the most fluid progression from basic scienc > core clinical > elective clinical > residency.

yes it matters.....september class puts you on track with US students. Here's the thing.....hospitals have specific start dates, you dont just walk into a hospital and say IM HERE!!!!! They dont care. Start dates are different for every hospital and the number of students they accept is variable. You have to do cores at one of the auc sites. My class, a september class, is pretty big. A lot of us are waiting until june or july to take step 1 bc some of the clinical spots dont open until sept or oct. The problem is that we will probably bump the semester below us out of spots because we'll get out scores a couple weeks before they are even allowed to sit for the exam. If you start by november you should be able to make your match.....if you start earlier than that then you have some play time

I started in Sept 2002. Did my 20 month sentence in lecture hall 1 (with weekend yard passes). Took one month off to study and started in The Land of Ire at the end of June. I am now finished with cores and have all of my electives set up to graduate in Dec.
My priority was 'time'. Some people have a priority of 'place'. Those are the people that wait for Sept, Oct rotations to start.
You have to decide which priority is yours and make a plan that works.
Later, Beaux
