When you took your 'final' for BBCM, i.e. the simulated USMLE Kaplan exam, how well did it correlate with your actual USMLE score?
How much attention should you pay to that score IF you do relatively well on it.
Thanks

If I recall correctly, along with the simulated Kaplan score, they gave my husband a correlation as to how well he'd do on the USMLE, or maybe this info was posted in the Registrar's office?

I know they give you a 'simulated USMLE score' after you take the exam...but I want to know if it has any reliability as to when people took the real deal.
Was their score higher, lower, same?

I believe my husband scored 10 points higher on the real deal, but he studied for an extra month.
Hopefully rrod will answer this since he took his exam pretty much right out of AUC.

both the nbme and the kaplan were right on for me. i think the questions the nbme releases are tougher than the ones on the exam so the exam is between kaplan and nbme but as far as i know everyone i talked to said the kaplan score correlated well. my suggestion is not to take it seriously and slack off for two months b/c you did well on kaplan then take the exam.
from whaty i have done and seen if you do 60 or above in kaplan you will be in the 200's just don't take too much time off....

I have taken an nbme exam and scored relatively well on it. I know I've got weaknesses and still some reviewing to do...but I've got a tad under 4 weeks to do it.
I have my Kaplan simulated exam tomorrow morning, so it will be interesting to see how that compares to my first nbme.
I plan on taking the second nbme exam probably about 3-4 days before the real thing to see how much progress I've made to up my score.
I'll post tomorrow to let you guys know how the nbme vs. Kaplan simulated scores looked.

yeah, i've been kinda confused about this. i took kaplan's thingy this morning, and it seems as though we're being told that our simulated usmle score is 350 minus the number you get wrong. for example, if you got 70% of the questions right, your simulated usmle score would be 245. however, according to page 10 of First Aid 2005, "passing ... is estimated to correspond to answering 60-70% of the questions correctly", which makes it sound like getting 70% right on kaplan should be "simulated" a little closer to 185 or so...

you probably cant completely accurately measure via K** simulated. You're probably in good shape if you passed it and if you're taking more time to study hopefully do fine. You can probably just make some generalizations from it.....if you failed badly then you have a lot of work to do. If you passed then you're on the right track and just study a bit more. If you destroyed the exam and got 250+ then you're probably ready to take it right now

if you REALLY bored and have 45 bucks to burn. You can see how well you do on it BEFORE you start school.

I took the Kaplan simulated exam today...and scored 25 pts + higher on here than I did on the NBME exam (altough it's only 4 blocks rather than 7).
So...take Kaplan scores for what their worth...not a whole hell of a lot until you take the real deal and get THAT score back.

my nbme score was about 10 points lower than my real score. my kaplan simulated exam was about 10 points higher than my real score. i think overall, the simulated exams and q bank were real good predictors.

I hope everyone is right about the Kaplan scores vs. Q Bank...because if that's the case...I'm $$. (knock on wood)
