how is the teaching at auc? are current students satisfied with teachers at auc?

i was. i would say 80-90% were great to good and 10% hovered on "why would i want to show up" most are retired staff from US med schools like creighton, and duke. the neuro prof writes q's for neurophys qbank, marshall. threre is one from austria, one from a canadian med school and one from a polish med school who also teaches first semester at harvard once a year so you get a wide experience....i would say same as UI i had profs from all over there also....

Teaching at AUC is decent if not supurior. After having almost entire 5th semester basic science done now, I can say that pharm course must be taught in different way. The prof is great and knonw his stuff very well but his teaching methold is not indicative of Shelf exam and Even Kaplan simulated Exam so far. He may stress more mechansim and drug interactions in cinical senario such adrennocortical insufficiency with withdrawl of glucocortociods and Sulfornamides on G 6 PD deficienc rather than random memorization and recognition of the thousands of drugs on his book. Going over 1000 plus powerpoints was collasal loss of time and energy. of course it was students way to pass his course.


when it comes to pathology, I would say that it has been decent yet need some overhauling. The path exams that we had during 3rd and 4th were far from clinical vignette types but more of random recognition and memorization with huge amount of notes that contains considerable amount of unrelavent material for step 1. I think the path can be best taught in the context of patho physiology in clinical senarios for the sake of USMLE prepation

Other course such as miro is OK and neuro is strong.
I felt comfortable in shelf in micro and neuro

see i disagree about micro and pharm. I thought pharm was right on target for the shelf exam.....i'll let you know after i get my shelf score.....and micro i thougt it was one of our exams. Path needs to be changed a bit.

Micro was very good... but probably needs more genetics(nobody saw that coming). I brushed it off as did most of the other students.

Pharm... ugh

Phys, mostly good but needs to revamp some things

Path could probably use a bit more work but I hear they are working on it.

Anatomy... no idea, I don't know any of the teachers in there

Genetics... very good class. Probably one of the better classes(I doubt Swimguy will agree with me though)

Neuro, very good prof

Biochem... I don't know, I never went to class

History of Medicine.... talk about right on! :roll:
