is it possible? I heard you have to purchase a return ticket before you arrive. could you just book it for 20 months in advance. I will be bringing my dog and don't want to ship him multiple times.

You can, and should book a return ticket before you leave. It'll save you money and alot of hassle. Unfortunaltely, you can only book flights 11 months in advance, so you will have to book and then change your booking, and pay any differences in the fares.

I know a few people that stayed through christmas break but then went home the following summer break (assuming you start in August class). But 20 months man that would drive me nuts... :-jumprope

Immigration has just recently changed their policy: You no longer need a return ticket to enter the country, so it is possible to arrive without a fixed return date. Don't know if there is a max length of stay on a student visa though.

My family and I stayed on the island for 18 months straight. We like Grenada! (and we aren't done yet since I did the MPH).

My husband and I will be doing this too, for the same reason-- we are bringing our 3 dogs. I asked this question before and was told quite a few folks do it. We will have to get to know each other for company over the summer months! My friends and family have promised to visit us over winter and summer breaks to keep us company.

This is exciting... I hate living at home with the parents so this would be an exciting possibility

I know this is an old thread, but we are planning on returning to GND in Aug 2008 and staying till Dec 2009. Does anyone have any updates on this - visas for family, extending a student visa, etc? Thanks.

Well the worst they will do is give u a 6 month visa, adn there every 6 months u have to go to town and renew it.. It takes 5 minutes.. NO HASSLE at all. But u will require a schools letter stating taht you are in this semester taht will last till this day.. and so on.. and during break u may need a schools letter saying that this people are staying over the summer in conjuntion with the next semester thats going ot begin on htis date.. and so on

Ok, so to stay over winter break, I need to get a six month stamp when I arrive in August. Then I will need to renew sometime in February which may then take me to August, where I'll have to renew again till December. So, the only additional item is the school letter to account for the summer. Thanks for the info.

Well, I've already finished term 1, so I have 16 months left. The 16 months includes 1 winter and 1 summer break that we would be staying here. The OP, back in 2005, asked the original question about 20 months, which is full-time from Term 1 to Term 6 (the basic science terms).
