Fear

"Up on the ward I walked around with a heightened sense of all that was going on around me. I noticed that the nurses had taped to the wall a poem typed on now yellowed and brittle paper:"

Please See My Need

Take time to hear my words
Please know that I'm still here
Outside I'm weak and sick and worn
Inside my heart knows Fear

I have so much I want to say
There's much undone to do
I don't want a world of cold machines
I just want some time from you

You check for fever - you check for pulse
And then you're on your way
Oh please just sit and hold my hand
A few minutes - can't you stay?

Skip my bath. Don't change the sheets
Use this time instead...
Let me share the FearsI know
Please, sit here by my bed

Inside I beg, but I can't ask
Your time is yours to give
So many need your help and care
So many - who will live

I've used up all the life I have
I now await the day
So God, I pray you'll see my need
Please send someone who will stay.

If there is a god,
then there is no need for a church;

for god does not exist,
your life is only in your destination;

why give up your mind for a senseless being,
when everyone can live without a god....

it was a poem about a dying person wanting some attention, it was rather touching, but you ruined with your Nietzche philosophy... not necessary... it wasn't a religious poem, have you NEVER said "oh my god"?

your insurance company has allowed only 10 minutes per patient.
sorry

Thanks to Fear, I enjoy very much of the poem

One should remain neutral for things they don't kown or can't prove. Unless you can prove no God, you can't say there is no God. And don't say "when EVERYONE can live without a god". There are many people out there living on the hope that there is God, otherwise, there will be much more suicidal cases.

you were sort of preaching preppystud. also what if you have a patient that starts talking about god, are you going to shun them? why don't you put a real picture of yourself or take off this picture since it is most likely not you and you are using another person's face against their will... maybe you should think about removing the flag as well? and tell us who you really are... just don't hide behind someone else's face. you're still anonymous without a picture.

for some of you, if you loses the faith which you were brought up with, then it is almost as if you lost your soul.

however, that does not mean that because you were brainwashed ever since you were kid, then there must be a god because you were taught to believe in him.

I always ask this simple question. Ask any aboriginal people from any parts of the world, ask them what wind is, they can immediatly tell you. Ask them what god is, they will list thousands of names of their gods.

And why do some of the black people want to tell you that god is not white, god is black? and why do they believe that it was the white men's conspiracy to lie about it?

And i find it very funny to see Asians to worship a white jewish man. And if bible is real, did it ever mention anything in Asia, did it use any Asian names? come on now, bible is so powerful, god knows everything, then how come god doesn't even know where asia is?

i can go on and on...-

Once again I'd like to remind users that this forum has been established for the professional exchange of information concerning medicine and more specifically Ross University School of Medicine. This is not an appropriate forum to discuss or debate religious belief (or non-belief) or racial pride (prejudice). That goes for ALL those who have posted above.

I expect that my warning will be heeded by all and there will be no further discussion as such. Thank you all for getting back on track and for your continued participation in a professional and respectful manner.

Hey everyone!

Everyone: Someone badly needs attention! :x Fight the need to respond. Ignore it, don't even bother recognizing it. Personally, I refuse to acknowledge anyone who is just ignorant about how to communicate with others. It's a waste of our time.

Fear: That was a really beautiful poem and I am glad you shared that. Sorry, this topic has been flipped on a tangent and has made this thread ugly. I appreciate you sharing the very touching poem that puts doctors ( and future ones, too!) into a heartfelt reality-check. Hopefully, we can always remember that patients are hoping we are "healers" and not just physicians.

happydoc :)

Thank you for sharing that poem. Once again, the nurses remind us all that room 101 doesn't hold a "post MI" or a "laproscopic appendectomy" but it holds a real person who is someones mom/dad, someones wife/husband, and someones best friend. The poem was very moving, even for a guy like me who rarely shows emotion.
