Around 6 percent, usually early in 1st semester.

why early in the 1st semester?
to get a passing grade one needs to be above 75%. that seemed kind of high so i thought maybe they fail a lot of people and send them home. I am confident above my ability, I just want to know all the info. I want to make an educated decision about schools.

another reason besides just grades that most ppl leave early in first semester is because they have adjust problems.. some ppl just cant handle island li fe... and its a big culture shock.. happens everywhere... not just saba..

6 percent attrition rate. that's low, great.
75 percent to pass courses. that's a mid C to pass a course. High or not?
easily achievable if you study? are grades curved or is it straight scale?

thanks in advance

It does seem that the attrition rate is high in first semester. This is certainly due to the soul-crushing reality of med school setting in. I am experiencing it now..... well I was going through it, but now an utter sense of calm has enveloped me. I don't know if this is due to the fact that I have utterly given up trying to change my fate in anatomy, or maybe it is just a bit of confidence from doing well on the lab practical. Some people can't get used to the island, I don't have that problem..... Mine was I hadn't been in school for a while and I forgot that you had to study.

ok, i read the medical board of california approval report on saba. they stated the attrition rate is 4%. this is due to students failing a class twice or not being able to pass Step 1 after 3 tries.

4% is very low and i think saba provides quality education.

my opinion.

Not to scare anyone here, but I think the attrition rate is higher than 6%. I would guess more along the lines of 10- 15%. For our class, most of these made their move in and around second semester. Some people stuck it out first semester and just left early in second. Others couldn't make it through Biochem and Physio in second (and either left or repeated and left). Once we got to third, most people stayed. A few repeated a class here and there, but I belive nearly all the people I started with managed to graduat Basic Sciences yesterday.

As far as general attrition goes, let me say that I think just about anybody who gets in can make it through. There are, unfortunately, one or two people each semester who might not have what it takes, but it's probably not you. They are pretty rigorous, but they are not trying to fail you out.

Best of Luck!
