the residents there are some of the biggest jackasses i have come across in all my rotations... particularily the more senior and cynical residents... show any interest and they feel intimidated... the attendings, for the most part show hardly any interest in students... there is a lot of problems overall with the rotation. unfortunately, it has a seemingly good reputation as far as a solid surgery rotation so those who are considering surgery (as i was) will be forced to deal with it... among the 6-7 saba students i know of who rotated there, every single one of them regretted it. with that having been said, there are a couple of incredible attendings who will go out of their way for you and make the rotation actually worth while... spend as much time as humanly possible with dr. ***** ********* who is also the chief of general surgery... he is an amazing teacher and will let you do a lot in the or. he also writes incredible letters of recommendation. dr **** ***** is a caribbean grad (sgu) who took me on and gave me an opportunity to publish with him. he is a great guy who will work with you to make the most out of the rotation... yeah, besides that, the rest of the faculty/residents are horrible... in particular, one guy named *******, who i imagine is a chief resident now, is someone to avoid at all costs... if you are interested in surgery, look elsewhere... it turned me off gen surg completely (thanks ******** for the advice!)
