is relative.

It depends what you are used to.

The crime there does however, stress you out more than you need to be stressed. I've heard some people take stun guns there or mace for protection. The locals there are not savages or anything like that though.
You just have to learn to take ur own precautions and be at the right place at the right time. Not be walking out at midnight alone.

Plus, there were hurricanes. They never hit, only the tropical storm part of them did, but it really stirs people up to know its coming toward them.
Also there are many power outages, ants, boas, iguanas, centipedes, loud cows mooing, and weird slugs to deal with. (At least when I was there).
Its just you against nature and it's rugged conditions.

It's a great experience to live through though, if the hurricane or robbers doesn't actually hit you personally, that is. Most people survive.

It's just not an ideal place to have a med school though. Go to the states if at all possible. You can avoid a lot of problems that way.
But even if you chose it, in the end, its not going to matter where u came from once you get into residency itself. However, getting into those residencies depends on your usmle scores...so if you do well with that, thats all that really matters. Its just that being in dominica may not b the best place to be. Some people's minds may not be able to handle the other external stresses that go along with it at the same time. Plus if u want to go out, there's not a lot of variety of places to go, since it is an island, but despite that, it is a beautiful looking place..very down to nature.

there must have been some sort of curse attached to this email, as minutes after i read it, i felt something crawling on my leg while sitting at my desk the bedroom of my apartment. i IMMEDIATELY looked down and around the floor to see what the hell it was, as I had brushed it off as SOON as i felt it. anyhow, i didnt find anything, but i felt a strange tingle on my leg where i felt the crawling thing. i thought nothing of it, and found a few ants crawling on the floor. about 10 mins later, i was standing and walking around the desk, when i saw something black, long and thin on the floor near the carpet all curled up. it was a CENTIPEDE! i thought it was already dead, so i left it be (since it looked sick anyway). For all those who are coming down here, always remember this rule. EVEN IF YOU THINK SOMETHING IS DEAD, MAKE SURE it is dead, dont just assume it is! Becuase only mins later, i looked at it again, and it had suddenly crawled up under my slipper. so i took the other slipper (meanwhile, my leg was somewhat red and kinda hurting) and was hitting the slipper...no centipede. As much as i DESPISE the smell of it, i whipped out the BOP and sprayed around, and out flew the damn 'pede. now my room smells HORRIBLE, and my leg is all red and somewhat painful. i immediately took some allegra...unfortunately i have nothing more powerful, but i will take another dose in about 6 hours in order to prevent the swelling and complications associated with these centipede bites, as I've heard they're quite bad!
