Salutations:

For those of you who got accepted, what did you do for the police report? Did you simply walk into your local police department and ask them for a police report? Also, would it matter if you get a police report from Los Angeles or from Riverside? Thanks.

I think they basically want to know that there aren't any warrants out on you. Don't think LA vs Riverside makes a big difference.

Best of Luck!

Our local PD required a hair sample, a urine sample, a DNA sample, fingerprints, two 5x7 black and white glossy photos, and a body cavity search by Seargant Bubba. Says he didn't find anything that would preclude a letter...

Yes, i just walked in to a local PD and asked for that stupid letter. I had to do that only 3 (three) times and each time they looked at me like i have 3 heads. Then finally, when i went there the 3rd time and said i will complain to everyone there is to complain to in the US, they typed it up for me. I still owe them a fruit basket or something for that though... Basically they have NEVER heard of such a thing and plus, they don't really want to work if they don't have to...

The local cops had no problem doing a background check on me and writing the letter, what they didn't like so much was the fact that I had to get all my firearms signed over to my brother. (I'm from Michigan, we tend to have a small arsenal) That took a good day of paperwork to get the permits signed over to him. I didn't tell them that they're going to have to reverse the process in under two years. If anyone else shoots, I'd recommend taking them apart, clean them well and store them.

Hey all,
I really doubt I'm going to be able to get the Mid-town South Precinct of NYC to sign off on anything for me.

If you live in a small jurisdiction, the letter is probably no problem. If you live in a metropolitan area with a lot of terror suspects and transients, it's probably not easy to achieve.

Before admission to the NY Bar I had to obtain a "Disposition Slip" which listed every infraction, and indicated that it had been settled. If you have trouble convincing your precinct to issue a general letter, you might ask them how to obtain a "Disposition Slip," it's typically through the county courthouse.

The "Disposition Slip" will just be a spreadsheet of any infractions within the jurisdiction, but it should suffice to prove that you have no outstanding warrants (assuming that you don't).
