Somebody at the power plant tripped over the cord. Now they can't find it under all the empty Kubuli and Appleton-White bottles....
this is one of the reasons I wish Ross had dorms.
Im losing soo much sleep over these power outtages. As soon as my AC kicks off I wake up. I dont get a breeze in my room so it heats up like a sauna.
Not that Im sleeping well anyways as is.
this power thing is getting troublesome.

Coconuts had scheduled a party for saturday night. Even though they have a generator and it actually works, I bet everyone just assumed that there won't be power.
A few people were there. When the power went out around 11pm, it only took a minute or two to wind up the generator and they were back in business. But when the lights went on, like magic, the customers were gone.
I'll suggest to them to make it very clear in their next advertisement poster that they do have a working generator.

i thought coconuts only has a party once each semester. i never remeber them even having a party last semester, except for the first semester's party. yeah the power thing is annoying...i wished the ross generator would also power up lizard trail since we're right next to the generator! that would be really cool

i wonder if what you said is what really goes on over there...i dont understand why there would have to be so many interruptions in power? its not like they are improving or vastly expanding the service. whats up is up. it even goes off during a sunny day with no wind. what are they doing while it is off? i also question how it can go off, and then come back on again a few mins later, and then be off again for the rest of the night? i mean, it was never bothersome at all before, but the last few outages in the past few weeks have been somewhat annoying.

Ross's generator is enough to give power to this whole entire area. they should give power to all housing associated with the school.

"Thursday, May 08, 2003 ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC - The Dominica Electricity Services Ltd. (DOMLEC) recorded an US1.7 million dollars profit last year, turning around an US4.07 million dollars loss in 2001."
http://www.countrywatch.com/@school/as_wire.asp?vCOUNTRY=050&UID=859188
As part of their success they got a loan for
"the purchase of three high-speed generator sets that should be operational by June this year."
"its plans for the future include the automation of the northern sugar loaf power plant, the reduction of manpower, installation of medium speed units at two power stations to improve system capacity..."
So possible contributors to power outages are planned ones due to reorganization with new components and the normal pain and errors of laying off workers and replacing them with automated systems.
"the Company recorded a 5.7 per cent in peak demand over the previous year, reflecting the general state of the Dominica economy"
I thought the economy is faltering.

I am getting my electricity bill tomorrow, and I'm DREADING it, even though we conserve the juice as much as possible.
It's conceivably cheaper to run your own generator, and pay for the fuel instead of buying DOMLEC's power. But guess what? You have to get a government license to run your own generator, no matter how small!! Plus, I am sure there are "licensing fees" and "processing delays" that will prevent any student from realistically running their own generator to make up for the frequent outages around here.
If anyone wants to learn How To Run a Corrupt and Successful Racket With Shady Government Cooperation, come to Dominica! No wonder they posted a 1.7 mil profit.
my power just went out here in NY which happens every now and again... it was rather peaceful... made me think of Dominica... maybe when i will be on the island and the power will go out there i will think of home... memories...
