Hi guys. I got my guide for accepted students on stuff to bring with you to Grenada. After reading about the weight limits on planes and the limited amount of stuff you can bring, I was really surprised by some of the items listed. I was sure that many of these things would be attainable on the island.

So here is a list of things I was questioning (some of them I wouldn't even know HOW to get to the island). Please let me know if you think I would be okay to buy them there in Grenada. Thanks.

I would bring school supplies b/c it's not that heavy, it's not cheap in Grenada, and what they have you might not like.

A flashlight and batteries become really valuable in two main situations: camping and going to school in a third-world country.

They don't provide silverware, pots or pans, plates, etc. so unless you're like me and like to eat with your hands, bring whatever you might need.

They also don't provide sheets, blankets, pillows so that you might need. Again, you might find this stuff in Grenada, but it's not worth it.

When I was there, I wished i had a brita, but then again, I got used to the diarrhea, I actually kinda like it now. I don't know if a brita would prevent it though.

You could bring telephone, but if you live on-campus, it's kinda of expensive to install and you don't really need it since everyone uses dialpad or iconnect. You need a laptop with a wireless card and headphones/microphone.

As for everything else, you don't really need it or you can easily find it for a reasonable price. Use the weight limit to bring something you can pass the time with (books, games, movies). I didn't bring anything like that and boy was that the longest 4 months ever.

its still cheaper to bring excess luggage with you and get charged by the airline rather to have it shipped down here.

some items such as bulbs and lamp you can just purchase it here they do have most of the stuff here that you need, altho you might not agree with the price they wanna charge you...

i, unlike amanda, dont have much joy with diarrhea. bring some immodium with you and some gatorade crystals to rehydrate yourself. i used to get late afternoon headaches for the longest time because of the dehydration caused by emergency bowel evacuation coupled with coffee and very little water to drink.

Things that I am glad that I brought:

1) Nice, new laptop
2) GI issue poncho liner (light blanket)
3) Gerber multi-tool
4) Mp3 player

Things that I should not have brought:

1) All these shoes ( been wearing sandals)
2) A cheap backpack ( had to get a nice Targus bag shipped down)

Things that I wish I had brought:
1) More shorts
2) A collapsable laundry hamper

I found the pharmacies, and grocery stores to be fairley well stocked. Although, finding a certain brand of a product may be hard to find. For example shampoo is available. However, Pantene 2in1 anti-dandruff shampoo + conditioner probably won't be found.

Most every thing that I have needed, I was able to purchase them. Don't worry yourself to death over whether you remembered to bring ziploc bags or OTC medicines. You can find enough to get you by while you're here.

A good tip for packing is redundancy. Pack a shaving kit (at least the contents of) in each bag, underwear in ea. bag, clothes in ea. bag.....you get the idea. You can't pick which bag the airline will lose. It's usually found within a few days. Singular items such as a laptop/digital camera should be packed in your carry on. Hope this helps.
