I was wondering if I could get other peoples exp on bringing a pet to Ross. I am planning on bringing my dog with me, however I know you cant fly them down in august when I am coming to Ross for the september semester. Can you have them shipped down? I was given a list of housing that would accept pets and they are as follows:
1) **** Leblanc
2) George Nanthan
3) Cletina Benjamin
4) Fedrica James
5) Blanca Heights
Does anyone know about these apartments? Thanks for your help.

You do know there is a 6 months quarantine for animals right? (not counting customs on the way back to the US)
Thats why I am not taking my dog, I have to sell her :(

Can't say I know any of those landlords but if your that worried about it I am sure you will be fine if you get there a few weeks early and get the pick of the litter of housing. As for the "quarantine" the person who sold her dog (SHOCKING!!!!!) mentioned I have no clue where that info came from but I never found it to be true. The best thing you can do is to contact THE vet of dominica before you get there and talk to him about what your bringing and when. The reason I suggest this is he is THE final say about any animals on dominica. If you have his permision and proof there of (letter or have him meet you at airport day you fly in) then customs will care less about it. His name is Colin McCentire. I am sorry I don't have a phone number anymore but he is in the phone book and hopefully someone still on island will be nice enough to look it up and tell you.
By the way. Quick backstory of why I know. I got a puppy first semester from the Carib territory and got her all her shots from Dr M. She flew to and from Dominica with me several times I left to visit my girlfriend. She also gave birth to 5 puppies and most of them left Dominica with notes from Dr. M. Never did I deal with a quarantine anywhere because I had certificates of healh from him. She is here in Miami with me as I try to wade through USMLE prep. I obviously could not live without her now so I offer the advice to save you from having to sell your dog. And tsk tsk to the person who did!!!!!! Oh yeah one more thing. Contact Amerijet about shipping you pet in Aug. I know of friends who did this but I never had to as I didn't fly at all during the hot months.

I don't know first hand about the quarantine, but here is a quote from the Ross Welcome Packet.
PAGE 23
----------
"May I bring pets to Dominica? Yes, pets are allowed in Dominica. Pets have to be checked out by a veterinarian and, once on the island, have to be quarantined for 6 months. The reasons is that there is no rabies on Dominica, and the country would like it to remain that way."

i called the vet on the ross website and he said that i did not have to quarantine my two cats and all i had to do was fax my cats vet history.
i am just telling you what he said. i have never been to the island so i really don't know but that is what i am going to do when i come.

This is a great learning experience about how things work in Dominica. Perfect example. The speed limit for the road in front of campus is some kilometer amount that translates to roughly 20 miles an hour. EVERYONE still drove it at about a minimum of 80 miles an hour until the school invested in repaving the road with several pain in the tush (yet much safer) speed bumps. The point of my story is that the "Dominican law" (students on the island snicker in unison) was not even known to most people let alone followed. Such is the law that was written to protect the island from the introduction of rabies. Being as it is in the law books of the country it is on the Ross welcome pack but it just doesn't happen that way. Call Dr. Mcntyre and talk to him about your concerns. He is the final say as to animal (at least pets) importation into the island and he is also a very nice man who will be happy to help. As long as your pet has shots and a letter of health from your local vet you will be fine.

Can someone please tell me how to get a hold of Dr Mcintyre (sp?) I've been trying to contact him for several months -by phone/fax/voicemail- to no avail. So, to the students who have been able to reach him, please tell me how I can do the same. Thanx in advance.

PS: Do pet owners have to go thru the same or similar process in order to get their pets back into the US? If so, what's invovled (time frame, paperwork etc.) Thanx again.
