Just wanted to put this out there for folks interested.
I’m in the process of getting my rotations scheduled and I know that there were some issues about whether some states accept clinical rotations done through AOA programs or ACGME programs. Although I’m not a resident of TX, I called there because they seem to be one of the states setting the bar for everyone else. I spoke with a TX state medical board rep and she stated that IMGs can do any clinical rotations through AOA or ACGME programs. Also, she stated that TX no longer requires a neurology rotation for application to their residency program.
Has anyone else contacted some other typically “strict” states like Pennsylvania or California?

Have same issues here.

I am scheduled for one of my core rotations at a D.O. hospital in NY. What can I do? Can I ask school to find me another one. I am in tri state area and may decide to practice in PA state in the future. I do not want to close doors by taking a D.O hospital core rotation. Please help.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Btw, where can i find information about a given state's clinical clerkship requirements with respect to that state residency guidelines.

Thanks!

You should be able to find the licensure requirements of a particular state on their website. In order to find their website either do a search of go to the Federation of State Medical Board website and choose the state you want.

YES, you can ask the school to change your rotation to a different facility if it makes a difference to you or the state to which you apply. Be ready for a possible delay in your scheduling if there aren't any spots they can place you into for the same period of time. I would contact the state board of the state of your choice BEFORE I asked to have the rotation changed. The clinical advisors understand that certain states have certain requirements - if you tell them that the state where you plan to practice won't allow AOA clinicals, they will understand and help you change your schedule.

I contacted the CA state medical board and asked them the same questions I asked TX. CA only credits IMGs for clinical hours done through an ACGME run program, rather than and AOA program. Additionally, there are some specific requirements about how many weeks are spent in specific rotations. This info can be found at http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/waisgate?WAISdocID=2292926419+0+0+0&WAISaction=ret rieve look under statute 2089.5.
