Is it weird that SGU has a traditional grading system for medical school? Most of my friends that went to med school in the US said all their classes were pass/no pass.
How does this all work when you apply for residencies? Do they see a GPA?

Its not too funny. SOme of the med school have pass/no pass others have honors, high pass, etc, and yet there are still traditional grading systems in med school. We happen to have the latter. But when you do clinicals no matter what school you go to they distingusih honors, high pass, pass, no pass (essentially an A, B, C, or F). So even US schools end up with a GPA or at least the words honors, high pass, etc which everyone knows the equivalent to letter grades.

I found online the transcripts of an interview with the dean of medicine. He said the primary reason for the grading system is to maximize the opportunity for a student to transfer to a US school. In other words, to make it easier to distinguish the best students to give them another shot at a US med school.
