Laptop Charging.

I was wondering, would I be able to charge my laptop in the library or at home? I probably would need to purchase a transformer but would I have to bring my transformer everywhere with me if I want to charge my laptop? Or would all the plugs on campus already have a transformer so that I can just plug in my adapter and charge my batteries? Thanks.

You're laptop's cahrging cord has that black box in the middle of that acts as a transformer. Therefore it changes the voltage automatically where ever you plug it in. Most likely you'll just need a liitle plug adapter for your apt, but you shouldn't need a transformer just for the laptop. I never did.

The campus electrical system is entirely 110 - just like in the States (regular plugs and electricity). Some apartments also have 110 power. However, most laptop computers come with auto-switching adapters. Just read the adapter that came with your laptop - they usually say 110-220 or thereabouts. BUT you will need an adapter (very inexpensive as compared to a transformer) to change the plug type if your apartment doesn't come with a transformer.

most laptops can plug into 220 as well as 110. surge protetors can be laptop-saving devices-moreso for use at your apt than school.

The extreme heat and humidity often causes cracked cords. If you get the chance to buy a warranty program and this happens, it is possible to get free cords during your return visits to the states. I think my daughter might have gone through 3 cords.

What computer did she have?? I had a Sony VAIO..no problems at all!

no kidding. I have a Dell and have never had a problem with the cord.

I only went through one, but when I came back over break I came down with an extra one in case the new one broke. It's a real pain in the *** if that breaks down there. A friend of mine also had his break. we both had the dell inspiron 1100 and used laptops on a daily basis. The wire that was cracked was the smaller one at the hub coming out of the transformer to the computer in both cases.
Just be certain not to bend the wire excessively when putting it in your laptop bag. (but the climate didn't help, either)
