Hello all,
I have been pondering a California residency question for the last couple days. During the time we are looking for residency placements in our fields, what if we get a residency spot in a different state other than California. Can one complete residency in XYZ state and then come back to California and practice?
If so then are there any other tests/licensure requirements that need to be met?

I don't think it makes any difference, if I understand your question correctly. The licensure laws are the licensure laws in CA, applicants must satisfy them the same whether it is their 1st license or their 10th. CA does offer reciprocity, but I think it's on a case-by-case basis and they'll still scrutinize your education the same. (Please correct me if I'm wrong on this.)

You don't need to do your residency in CA to be eligible for a CA license - if I understand correctly this is what you are concerning?
If you are considering practicing in CA in the future I would strongly advise you to go to AUC and not SMU.
Btw opnr2k2 are you really in Union City now?

As long as you have met all the requirements for CA in your training, they can't deny you licensure there, especially if you have already been practicing in another state. If you are concerned about the requirements then contact the CA state medical licensing board directly and ask them. They'll certainly know better than we would. However, I'm from PA, one of the top 5 strictest states, and it is the same for me.
