I was wondering how difficult the classes are first semester at SMU. I understand medical school is an entirely different than undergrad. I guess I'm curious to know if SMU eases the students into medical school or does academic load at SMU make you dive right in?

Im a 2nd semester and was also one of those people, who thought that med. school is something impossible and unbelievably hard. Well guess what, its everything that you heard of but impossible. Yes it is hard, lack of sleep, stress, times thinking that you are not suited for that, but trust me its possible. My first semester last semester wasnt easy, we had a hurricane, relocation and other things. but the faculty was extremely helpful, alot of extra help was available. if you put in your hours of studying and work your butt off, you will succeed, trust me. Its not that bad, just do the work, and you're set.

hey, you're going to have to work hard. it is, after all, medical school. As a wise Embryology and Histology instructor at SMU once told me, you must know EVERYTHING. Read again and again and again. Read hundred times. take care. but leave time for SCUBA on the weekends.

It depends what you're used to. For some people it is quite a change and does seem very difficult. For others it can be the opposite. I found the first two semesters here much easier than any of my undergrad ones. You can very easily have alot of social time and do well in your classes. You only have about 20 hours of class per week then just study a few hours a day and you'll have plenty of time to relax.

I do understand your fear but I have this to say. Medical school is a good place to be if only you are willing to face the challenges. It involves a lot of readings yes, and also some time to have fun or do other activities.
It all depends on how you manage your time and how much study you do aside the class daily lectures. One thing is going to classes and the other is studying after classes.
There is nothing to fear. be a man and stick to your books and try as much as possible to avoid procrastination.
Do the right thing at the right time and you will be fine.
I wish you the best.
