View Full Version : Vaccinations

I know that this topic has been addressed before, but not all questions have been answered.

Most of the vaccinations are not required for immigration, but simply to attend school. The checklist says that we will be required to submit these in person to the University Registrar on the day of orientation. Which vaccinations are included in this list?

How recent does the TB test need to be (I have one that's 1.5 years old)? Since HIV is included in immigration forms, does this need to be included? Is it necessary to have Hepatitis B or A vaccination (one form says A and one says B)? I'm assuming the only other vaccination needed is rubella.

If any school official (or other) knows the answers to these, I'd really appreciate it...it's getting down to the wire and I like to get things done early.

Thanks

The TB test must be less than 6 months.

The school needs the HIV test information also.

You must have the hepatitis A and B vaccine or show proff of sufficient antibodies.

so basically we need to get Hep A and Hep B vaccinations, HIV, TB, and VDRL tests, and a Rubella (MMR) Vaccination in order to attend SMU and enter the Cayman Islands?

is there anything else that needs to be done for SMU/immigration besides the basic physical?

I have called the school and I have gotten several responses from calling them and from the chat rooms. When I called they said not to worry about Hep A & B. When I was in the chat room, they responded that I need both Hep A & B or I will be denied entrance to GC. It is very confusing from what they have said in the catalogs and what they have said over the phone and through the chat room. Is it possible to start the Hep Vac A & B and have documentation before I leave the US and finish the Vac while in GC?---because there has to be time between the vaccinations. Could a school official or anyone who has any knowledge that has delt with this problem notify me? Thank you in advance!!

Ben,

I think maybe you should post this on the official SMU forum and maybe someone there will see it. It is a good question.

Benjie,

You could begin the Hep B series right now and finish it in GC. You could also get the Hep A from your present doctor. I do not think it is required by immigration since it does not state it in the immigrations forms we need to fill out. I believe both A and B are required to begin school. I remember reading from a school official we could finish the series in GC. Hopefully a school official will respond.

Does anyone how these labs are coded on the insurance lab requistion? If they are coded as immigration, do most third party payers reimburse for these items? CXR? VDRL? HIV? Anyone?

police report and passport photographs

Can it be just a copy of your police record? Or does it need to be in a letter format?

I called the office in Florida, they said, letter of good conduct. In some police stations they give it to you right away. My county, it took them a week to mail it to my house and charged a 20 dollar fee. I believe it has to be the actual letter with the seal.

In most cases the lab work will not be covered by insurance carriers

It's free in rural Texas, where no one has ever asked for such a letter before. But it takes them 3 weeks to ask the county attorney if it's okay to write the letter.

You do not have to have the Hep A and B for immigration. He said the info in the packets we have all received are not updated(which they should be!). He said that you should get Hep A and B for your own reasons...and you could start the series in the US and finish them on your break when you return to the US. That is all the info I know. If someone else could verify this it would be nice because I know others have questions pertaining to this topic.

Thanks Benjie for the info. But I thought the TB was for school purposes only. I do not think we have to include that in the immigration packet. I think im confused now. ?
I did send my immigration forms and Jose said it was complete.

For immigration simple PPD/Mantoux (TB) test is not enough. They want description of your CXR.

Is the CXR a part of the Immigration form? NYC, I guess the TB is for the school..I just went ahead and got it all done and sent it in. It seems as if and I'm pretty sure that they have not updated their packets that they send out and there are a lot of things that have confused me and i either call the school or see what y'all have posted.. See y'all in May!

Sorry folks! (my bad)
CXR=Chest X-Ray. It is commonly used medical accronym.
I'm getting a little bit ahead of myself here.

The school says it wants a TB skin test, but the CXR for immigration is to check for TB...I'm hoping that's accepted at school in lieu of the TB skin test.
