MUA provides medical students with the tools you will need to succeed as a Foreign Medical School Graduate. MUA is one of the six Caribbean Medical Schools that has a permanent campus to provide you with strength and stability.

thats directly from their website homepage. there are a lot more than just "6" schools in the carib with permanent campuses. even the bad schools have more of a record than mua belize.
next, im confused with the statement that they are already reporting students passing the usmle. the school is brand new, and i dont think they were open long enough to have students complete the 5 semesters. were these transfer students? something is not kosher.

actually i think their first class was in may or sept 2001 definitely no later than jan 2002 so plenty of time for students to be passing step 1

How many Caribbean medical schools actually own the buildings that their campus is in?
I think it's inappropriate to say a school is shady when due diligence has not been done to even find out how long a school has been in existence.
However, this comment has prompted us to review our website and we found that the history section was somehow not placed on the new website. So some good has come from it.
The website will be updated shortly with the history on the school.
The campus has been open since January 2002. It was originally a branch campus until it received it's own independent charter in August 2002.

well then i think you need to update your website and improve it. i was trying to get your school's history off of there and didnt get much info. i was assuming it was fairly new due to it being on value md for a much shorter time than you state it was opened.
and the quote from the website......... well i guess you can say sly marketing, but i took that it gives the impression that there are only 6 schools in the carib that are "stable". only six that dont move around and are not fly by night. smu is a great school but you are implying that they are sub standard (yes i know about CA but they have ny) by not having their own building.
it just seems like you are trying to knock the med schools that lease their building. its not doing it directly but indirectly.

originally the mua nevis and mua belize forum were combined in one big mua forum..
created a lot of confusion... and eventually the two were split into their own forums...

Also, split into 2 forums because they are no longer associated.

thats right ... but the forum split lagged a little behind because the disassociation had occured without most ppl knowing it had formally taken place..

As a foreign medical graduate myself, I know the importance of having a permanent physical plant and how much it can help the development of the academic program. The academic program should be what 'drives' the business and the physical plant should provide environment to allow the academic program to grow in the way it should.
I was in Monsterrat when the volcano blew and know first hand what happened to the academic program when it went from permanent adequate facilities to temporary facilities and back to permanent facilities again. Granted this was a time of natural disaster and that had a lot to do with things as well. However, knowing that the administration were working on getting a permanent facility up was really an important issue for most all of the students as well as faculty.
There's a lot to say about having a permanent campus.

Having started AUC the semester after the Volcano went, and then enjoying th breeze brought by Hurricaine Luis, I can understand exactly what you mean. I remember when they borke ground in the SXM campus, it was a big deal to us. I'm still amazed everytime I see the campus. People will never know the feeling of going to medical school in a Hotel, and some leased space over a casino. Having your own permanant facilities is a big deal. It makes the school seem like less of a fly-by-night operation.
While skepticism is good, you do need to give these new schools a chance. All of the "established" schools started as a big experiment. It isn't hard to make money running a medical school and doing it right. The best way to ensure that a school continues to make money (these are all businesses) is to do it right. Let's sit back, enjoy the show, and see what happens. G

It does seem like MUA Belize is off to a good start.

so i bring this thread up again. why merge with SC and the infamous mr. l?
if you wanted to build value for your school, why oh why would you merge with a train wreck? were things actually worse off on belize then was stated and this is a move out of desperation?
im up for anything. tell us the thinking behind this crazy move. i hope it wasnt just about money.
This combo of MUA-Belize and St. Chris sure doesnt look good for current MUA-Belize students. Pity. Now they are going to be lump together with the old St. Chris students and face more scrutiny come residency and licensure.

It is not the first time Mrs/Dr S has made a horrible, terrible, no-good, very bad move. Not surprising at all.

so in hindsight, it looks like i was on the right track when i called the school shady more than 2.5 years ago, doesnt it? i remember on other threads when i recommended people stay away from the school, people such as md90 chastised me for it. sadly, its a cycle in the caribbean with these shady schools.... and people will always get victimized. the next racket is already materializing with CMU.

Some schools are very obviously shady...do I need to name names? If people had looked at AUC in the late 90's they would have run for the hills. Classes in a hotel, and when that proved too small....a casino. Time always tells the tale. Of course, when it when it looks like a duck, flies like a duck, walks like a duck, and has the same DNA profile as a duck....shoot it, it's dinner. G

If I didn't get into my medical school, I would have gone to SGU, it seems to resemble a US medical school the most in terms of USMLE pass rates and student success.
