I am a little confused on who is staying up in Maine and who is coming back to Cayman. I know that if you are in the Masters program those students getting ready for their 4 and 5 semesters will stay in Maine, but what about everybody else. I am still a little confused. There saying that not as many students will return to cayman so it will not be as overcrowded and crammed. Does anyone have any rough numbers as to how many will stay and go.
thanks

As far as I have heard, most of the 5th semesters and 75% of the 4th will come back.
I am not sure what is the point to leave Maine and come back to Cayman for one semester, after being settled there for the past few months....but not my choice.

Dear Sebastien, I was wondering what other buildings and rooms was SMU trying to secure before fall 2005 to prevent overcrowding. I read on a past post of yours that negotiations were taking place to get more space. Are the areas in which the school is persuaing close by to the existing building or not.

The building purchase is done. Construction will start early next month in order to be ready by September.
This new building is made of large apartments. Each apartments will be with two bedrooms, one bathroom, one open kitchen and one living room.
All rooms have a balcony that has view on an interior court with a swimming pool.
Dr Harris, SMU president will make the official presentation soon.

Sebastien,

With the recent purchase of this property do you forsee SMU expanding the size of the Aug '05 class? Or is the overcrowding dilemma as serious as many people say it is on here. I'm guessing SMU is going in the direction of being able to offer on-campus to everyone who wants it while attending class in the Cayman islands.

Hello,

No class sizes will remain. The new building will accomodate a maximum of 90 students. So between the RH and this new one, it will give housing for about 230-240.
The housing situation in Cayman has never been critical, Students found apartments without any problem.
May will be a little tricky, but by September, all condos will be back on market.

With housing and resident halls aside, I am concerned about the overcrowding of the school building in which classes and labs take place. Are there any new building or lecture halls that are being developed to handle the excessive amount of students at SMU.

Additional space for the campus has been taken right next door to where we are. It will be ready for September

It's about 1 mile away from school. It will be mainly for 1st and transfer students for their transition on the island.
Since the housing possibility are increasing, i would think regular students might be allowed to stay for the whole time.

Does the new student housing have any single occupancies and does each room have its own kitchen or is the kitchen community based.
