After one completes the prerequistes (including MCATS), how long does it take to process the application for American schools? For example, if one finishes the prerequistes in May 2005, when will they be able to start medical school in the States? Thanks for your responses.

As far as i know..the application processs starts six month before May 2005...the means start in november and ends in december...mostly you should be done applying before January...but some University have it differently.....the best thing to do is to call the University you are interested in and find out yourself......
Hope it helps,

If you are waiting to complete your pre-reqs before you apply and you complete them by May 2005, then you will start the application process during the summer of 2005 for the incoming class of September 2006. Therefore 2006 will be the earliest year you will be able to start medical school.

If one finishes prereqs in May 2005, they could enter most international medical schools, as early as Fall 2005. Why would one want to wait a 1.5 years for the slim chance that they will get into an American school? Having spoken to many residency directors, it seems as though, the reputable foreign school graduates are in many instances considered/accepted into competitive residency programs. Thanks for the reply.

Perhaps you could enlighten us about the "Slim Chance". Always remember that it is best to stay home for school if you can. If there is something that totally precludes you from being competitive in the general US applicant pool, I would agree that going foreign is often a very good option, but I would try the US route first.
Best of Luck!

Is it crazy to apply to the schools in the U.K. or Ireland? I think I would be able to start sooner, and they seem to have a good reputation. Thanks for the reply.

Irish schools, especially RCSI in Dublin, are pretty open to foreign applicants. You should also consider DO schools in the US. Your GPA is competitive and a strong MCAT with good LOR's would make you competitive there.
Best of Luck!

but, what are LORs? And what schools in Ireland and the U.K. should I consider. Is University of Liverpool an option with my stats?

LOR's = Letters of Recommendation.
The Irish schools seem much more open to foreign students than the English schools.
Best of Luck!
