Hi everyone.

I am a student who i sgoing to attend MERP in Miami in April. I was wondering if anyone could answer some questions for me.

1.) Does anyone know approx what times the classses generally start and how long, and how many times they meet?

2) since the Ross building doesnt really have a library in the Miami bldng, is there an agreement of University of Miami to use their medical library. And wat do most people do for computer needs? Are there PC labs w/net and printer there or do most people just get their own?

3) what is the dress code and are the professors really strict on it? especially with the hot /humid Miami climate?

4) I know there are 4 science lectures, and a "doc/patient class". Are there laboratory exercises built into those or separate , or what?

5) Are there any options on-campus that have any kind of help-sessions or
anything of that kind? Dumb question, i know.

6) Can anyone recommend some goodnearby apts? And what do most people use to get to class? Metrorail?

Thanks for any replies on the subject

Peace out!!

I don't know much about the MERP program in Miami, but I can answer some of your general Miami questions.

Just to clarify, what sort of library are you thinking you may need? The basic medical sciences in medical school (and the MERP program, I'm sure) aren't library focused. What I mean is that you will learn mostly from the required textbooks, lectures, and from discussion with your peers. You won't likely be required to write long papers for which you will need to do a lot of library research from a pile of books. Medical research is JOURNAL based and you will have access to online medical sites where you can find full texts of most medical journals if you need them. Now if you were just looking for a quiet place to sit and study - many students use the UofM libraries for that purpose. There is also a learning resource center in the Miami facility.

At least for the 5th Semester course, students are required to always be in professional dress at lectures and clinical rotations. I'm not sure if this is different for the MERP program.

The Miami facility has a computer lab and learning resource center with computers, printers, etc. Most students also have their own computers.

Most students in Miami use a CAR to get to class. They either drive their own car to Miami, rent a car, or buy a car their. Some students use the Metro train and busses, but they don't easily connect to all areas of Miami.

Finally, since the MERP program is a preparatory program (similar to a post-bacc) for medical school. I would suggest that you work as hard as you can and learn solid study habits now.

Take care and best of luck!
