Hi guys!
Did anybody ever tried ship a car to Caymans befor? :?:
The reason I'm asking is that I'm stuck with a lease x 39 months (25 left).
I thought may be instead of buying one on the island I could ship this one.
Are tere a lot of problems with GC customs, and possibly huge duty/taxes :?:
If it does not work out ,does anyone know how lease "take over" thing work?
Any info is greately appreciated.

You can not ship a car to Cayman that has an existing lein on it. The title must be free and clear before they will let you import it. In some very special cases you may be able to get a letter from the lein holder giving you permission to remove it from the country. I have heard of loan companies doing this but never a lease company. It may be worth a try but you will have to pay the shipping cost to get it back to the US also. The actual shipping including all of the paperwork and what not will cost about $1500-$2500. The duty would be 25% of the Cayman assessed value. Which they won't actually tell you until the car is in Cayman. They will give you estimates but no hard numbers.
As far as getting someone to "take over" your lease you would have to look at the specifics of your lease. It is a contract and you will have to abide by its conditions. It should have delineations about the options yoiu have to have someone take over the lease or penalities to be released from it or amounts to buy it out.

ABsolutly agree with Keila. Even if the car was free, i do not see any points to ship your car in Cayman. Between the duties and the problems, it's going to be hell even before you arrive

Thanks again Sebastein,
I realized that it's a problem bringing a car over there.
But my point was, I've got one here, and I have to pay for it for the next 25 months, regardless if I use it or not. And I also have to maintain maximum insurance on it by law. So you can imagine it's going to cost me a few bucks. And I still have to buy some wheels on Cayman to ged around.
Thanks :)
