I am currently in fourth semester...and hope to be in fifth next semester. I was hoping someone that's currently in fifth semester could clarify some things for me.

These are the numbers I get from the Ross NJ site for 5th semester:

Tuition & Fees $11,100

Books/Supplies $500

Room & Board $6,985

Transportation $1,775

Personal $1,673

Health Insur (under age 30) $254

Tests $660

Loan Gua/Orig. Fee $278

$23,225
Total for AICM Training

So I figure you should have gotten a check for around $11k. Is this the case? If not, give me an idea. Also, can someone confirm/deny when you ACTUALLY got your check IN HAND (IN GENERAL)...please, no horror stories or outliers...just the norm.

As a sidenote...did anyone "volunteer" for the 12 week option? If so, how did your financial aid differ from the 9 week people.

I appreciate any first-hand information you can give me.

They tend to overestimate everything you'll need.

First off, you only need one book for AICM and that is a $30 book you buy from the office here in Miami, not $500

Secondly, look to spend about $1,000 a month for rent(so you're looking at $3000 for rent) and that's NOT including extra bills(ie cable, dsl etc).

Third, I don't know what the $1775 for transportation is, you'll only need money to get you here and for gas to get you around miami, and you'll be splitting it with your partner.

$660 is for the Step I fee and you'll also need $100 for the life support class the first week.

I'm doing the 12 week program, but couldn't tell you what the 9 weekers are paying but it won't matter b/c you'll be taking the 12 week mandatorily next semester.

I took out the Staffords and a little less than $6000 in extra loans and will have some left over I'm sure.
You can always take out more than you need and then just pay it back into the loans.

is $1000 the cheapest rent you can get?

I'd expect that kind of rent to include at least 2 bedrooms. no?

are there cheap studios available in miami?

Of course rent will vary depending on what part of miami you want to live in.

I share a house that is by no means nice and we pay $850/month but this is an exception to the rule. Friends of ours stay in an apt complex and are paying $1400/month unfurnished and nothing but water included.

The rent is pricy here and you will most likely be living far from either of the lecture facilities you will attend.

There's either "nice" or "not nice", and not much in between.

I would say look to be spending $1000 for a 2 bedroom apt.
