Anyone know why the administration decided to call this university St. Matthew's? Just wondering any significance behind the meaning...

St. Luke's was already taken, so was Grace. St. Marks doesn't have the same ring to it. St. Johns....isn't that a brand of aspirin?

Haha...I've wondered the same thing. I can see Saba having a name, since it's on the island, and Ross, because of the founder. St. Eustatius kinda makes sense, but besides those, I can't see why there are always the "Saint"'s

Well, then there's that "All Saints University of Medicine" or whatever. I guess they just couldn't decide, so they decided to go with the buffet! :-P

There's certainly room for many, many more Caribbean med schools, as the list for saints is long:

Who can predict the next one? St. ???

St. Maximilian of Lorch University School of Medicine?

How about: St. Constantine the Great University School of Medicine?

You know, I don't really know. I came on after the school had already been in existence almost six years, and never asked for the full story of the name. I've heard a couple of different versions, but I'm not sure which one is right.

Although I'm putting forth the suggestion to change it to one of the above at the next staff meeting.

One of the professors at St. Joseph's college said that St. Matthew's was a parochial school, is this true? If so, that may shed some light. St. John's University has been taken (school in NYC).

Hey, y'all, "s'aint funny"... :P

I just love all the joke contributors (and the hearty laughter that they evoke, for that matter- raising my glass in a toast); thank god for humor! As long as we're not unknowingly investing in a convent/priestly school, expected to be sin-free (cough) and required to shave our heads before gross anatomy lab (cult anyone?), I think we're all good to go!

Amen...
