View Full Version : May 2005 - Flight Ticket Information - Alert!!!

Hey i just booked my flight ticket for April, 27th 2005 from http://www.cheaptickets.com , and i think i got a good price....i paid 390 Canadian Dollers (tax included) from Toronto to St. Maarten. I think now is a good time to book tickets because the prices are going to go up at later dates. The cheapest ticket you are going to find is from new york to st maarten (from either LGA airport or EWR airport). The best thing to do is to get a ticket from your location to New York (either to LGA or EWR) and from New York you can book a ticket to St. Maarten (SXM). From St. Maarten you can either take the ferry or go by air. That way you can save a lot of money. See you all at the rock and hope this helps......

Thank You,

Siddman

Thanks for the info! That's a great deal you've found, Siddman. I've yet to find something comparable to that.

Do students usually get one way or round trip fares?

Cheers!

I got a one way ticket when I came down for first term, and then a one way ticket when I left in 5th semester, and the rest of the time, I was buying return fares originating from SXM. The only problem this poses is that ORBITZ and a couple of other online travel agents dont allow for online fares to originate from outside the United States. BUt then again, ORBITZ doesnt even take Canadian Credit Cards, so I didnt really care about it too much.

I myself didn't find a big difference between one way or round ticket...a round ticket is usually cheaper then buying two separate ticket to come and go back. But in my case, one way ticket for that price is a pretty good deal. If any other Canadians are still looking for a ticket .... cheap tickets still have these prices. And all prices are cheap from NY to SXM.

Hope this helps,

Siddman

A word of advice. If your bags are not checked all the way through to Saba, You will be limited to I think it is 40 pounds per bag on WINAir. If you book your ticket all the way to Saba you don't have to deal with this. I'm actually at MUA on Nevis, but a friend came back here in January and had booked his Winair seperately from his flight from the states. When he went to check his 70 pound bags in St. Maarten at Winair, he had to pay $75 per bag for overweight.

Of course, if you take the ferry over to Saba, it won't matter. We don't have that option coming in to Nevis.

Hi Kara:

I just booked my round trip ticket as well using my air miles on American. I booked my return flight for Sat. Aug 13 th as well. According to the Saba schedule that they sent me, finals should be over by then. However, since we used our air miles, we can always change the return date at no extra charge. Ill be arriving in Saba on April 28. Look forward to meeting you in May! Hope this answered your question.

Hey all - thanks for the info on the cheaptickets website... I've booked a flight from NY to Puerto Rico and from PR to St. Maarten for Apr. 27th - $210 bucks total. Not bad i thought. Is anyone going to be around Saba at that time? Also, I saw someone said that we should let the school know when we're going to be arriving. Is this true? If so, who should we call? Whats the general deal when arriving early? Any past experiences will be appreciated. :)

Thanks

This alert is for all Canadian flyers that have booked a ticket through Jet Go....from Canada to US or from US to Canada.......they have closed down all the airlines...and won't be in service any more...I was myself planning to book one from Jet Go...but by luck I paid some extra bucks to use our good old Air Canada to NY ....to reach SXM.....

Students who have booked a ticket by them by VISA or Master card can call the credit card company and get a refund.....

My flight arrives on St. Maartin at 4:55 and the latest flight from St Maartin to Saba using Winair is at 5:30. I doubt the flight will arrive on time and i doubt that i'll make the flight for 5:30 to saba. I don't see any other flights after 5:30 so i'm gonna be stranded on St. Maartin for the night and i can take the ferry at 9 am in the morning.

Any suggestions guys or any other alternatives??
I'm arriving on the 29th.

Hey I don't know if you're going to be able to swing this, but the boat people are really cool; We get discounts on the Edge as students. Normally we just show our ID's and it's no problem. Show them an acceptance letter and I'm sure you're good to go. The port fee is $4 now, it just went up. The boat runs wed- sunday. I don' t know what all this talk was on getting charged for luggage. I routinely go over with a huge empty suitcase, then come back with that suitcase full, plus a large box or two full of food. I've never been charged for extra luggage. The crew (JP and Steven, plus the captain for the day) are great and can answer all sorts of questions that you may have. Drinks are free- crack a cold Carib Beer or 8 and enjoy the ride! I'll see you guys here soon.
