Does anyone happen to know the time duration of a residency in Internal Medicine. I believe it is four years, but I wanted to make sure. Thanks.

3 years...unless your taking a combined IM program , i.e. IM/EM which would be 4 years, or IM/Peds...etc...

IM is in a state of "flux"... forces between "primary care" and "hospitalist" are at odds. Yes, there are talks of extending IM residency to 4 years, or offer "hospitalist" track as a PGY-4 option. But as for now, today, the categorical IM program is 3 years long. Chief residency in IM, unlike other specialties, are usually PGY-4 who stay an extra year for chief residency (whereas in most other speicalties, chief residents refer to the residents in their final year of training.)
