I got the booklist that we 1st semester students are getting when we get to SGU. (I got it a few months ago actually) I am going hit up some bookstores and probably amazon.com and half.com Does anyone know of any other books or guides that are excellent or nearly indispensable for term 1, or books that are good to have for the duration of school?

Why are you hitting up Am@zon/half.com? You already bought all these books - they are included in your tuition.... You have no choice - they will be here for you to pick up when you get here (hopefully) :-) (Sorry I hate the embbedded link ads...)

I understand that the books are included and we will get them when we get to SGU. I thought I covered that in the first sentance of the post. I was simply trying to ask if there were any other guides/books/handbooks that other students had found useful that were NOT on the list and thus NOT already included. That is what I was going to look for at the varous book stores/sites. Somewhere a word must have been deleted or punctuation missed. My fault for any confusion.

I personally plan on buying Netter's flash cards. Some people find it helpful, others find it useless.

Very helpful book for anatomy is Rohen (the picture atlas or something like that) . don't leave the states without it.
Biochem, Histo, and embryo just study the notes and you'll get an A.
Make sure you all get the Macdaddy CD and do the tests on it when you come to grenada. Ask upper termers for it. eventhough they don't use the same questions, it is good to have and test yourself- they still test you on the same topics.
Most of the books the school gives you are for your library. You really never need to use them because the notes are so good.

Most extra books are a waste, even though tons of people buy a bag full of review books for each class. The Netter cards and Rohen are nice, but not necessary either.

Sorry, probably just read it wrong... Students waking me up at midnight or 2AM for some ** problems doesn't do good for my sleep patterns... :-/

The macdaddy is a cd that you can get from your footsteps buddy or any other nice veteran of 1st term. I liked the netter flashcard program that was on it and I used it for an hour or so every day. I think it was in some ways better than the actual flashcards.
I also recommend chung- the anatomy book. people use it different ways. I only used the questions but some only used chung and did fine. People will tell you 400 different ways/things to study. just find what works for you. I do nearly all my studying horizontally in bed but I really don't think that that is a secret to my success.

Look, dont go buying every book that your neighbor has because you feel that your stash is insufficient. The truth is every book has all the sdame info just presented in a different manner. What you need to do is go check out those books and see which ones you feel comfortable with.
YOu will buy so many extra books you will have to put them on the shelf and collect dust.
The one book I highly suggest getting is Color atlas of human anatomy its a book with pictures from actual cadavers and ids very helpful at least for me.
Books for biochem, histo, etc are a waste of money because those subjects you get exactly what you need to learn from the handouts or the companion and the rest you can look up in the text you get.

I just went on Amazon and tried to look that up. Three different ones came up. Rohen, McMinn's and Lippincott. WHich color atlas are you referring to?
Thanks!

If you really want this color atlas, which is a photographi atlas, get Rohen. Just remember you will be getting the McMinn CD of anatomy because it is one of the required purchases that you have allready paid for.
