..Or has anyone else noticed that when you click on a post, advertisements specific to items mentioned in a post appear at the top of the screen.

for example in the recent post about general questions about SGU, the author mentioned sports and advertisements for sports tix were shown, a similar thing with the beauty post.

Just to test this theory,

Anybody know where to buy condoms?

Shouldnt be long before trojan and durex hit us with condom ads.

anyways I should probably get back to work

It's because those ads are by google -- google gets 50 cents every time someone clicks on those links. Pretty good, eh? Don't ask me how or why I know this. :?

Yup, there are those condom ads... And yes, they are Google Adsense ads.. basically they try and match the ads to the content of the page.

i have an apple, and haven't had any pop-ups since i got it.
...but tonight i got this IM from someone called sexmeggirl610:

"I usually wouldn't send pics like that but I just broke up with my boyfriend... if u want to see more im on my webcam right now!
cool-camz.com/megan"

so i'm not sure why i deserve this, i don't search for sex sites or anything. so it may be far fetched, but i'm blaming this thread

i dont know what youre talking about guys; if youre getting pop up adds i suggest a opopup blocked like google (which will allow site specific popups) and a spyware sweeper like spysweep asap.

I don't think they're talking about pop-up ads. There are four links above the thread that usually link to SGU, AUC, etc etc (in the right hand corner of the ads, it says "ads by goooooogle")... but when there are specific topics up, these ads change to say something else -- google senses certain words in the posts, and puts these ads up. If you have Gmail, you know what I'm talking about -- next time you open up your email in your Gmail account, look down the right hand margin, and you'll see a bunch of ads pertinent to what your emails are about.

As for getting strange IMs -- I have no idea what's behind those. :?
