Grade-wise, I did good in chemistry, but I have to admit I struggled with it. It wasn't the theory, but the conceptual-math problems that got me. Now I'm worried that medical school's curriculum will be too much for me. How much chemistry is in the med school curriculum?

you need a sound understanding of the principles of chemistry in biochem, physiology, pharmacology.

Grade 9 science should be enough chem. Other then knowing what a covalent, hydrogen, and ionic bond are, which might be in grade 10. Forget about VanderWaals forces and that stuff. Also, the ORGO reqiurement is more to make you jump through the hoops, there really is MINIMAL ORGO (I should know, I have a B.Sc. in applied Chem). In reality there should be a GENETICS prerequisite at med school, there was sooo much more of it!!! In physio, the chem that is required for you to know, is what is O2. And what is CO2 and CO. How are they transported from/to the lungs. But again, that is not as much chem as it is physio. So if you have taken Physio before you will be okay. As for biochem, it is all PURE memory work.

i have sound understandings, but i struggle with the formula-based problems.

if you got thru undergrad chem with good grades, you will do fine in med school as far as chem goes...there were very few formula based stuff...i vaguely remember henderson-hesselbach being important in a section or two...
basically, you will need to understand basic science concepts, in chem and physics.
i suck at chem, and did fine

Well that is a relief... I was stressin'. Thx. :D :) 8) :P

If you're good with Chem concepts and can use algebra, you should be fine. You'll have to have the concepts down for Biochem and some Phys. The closest thing I can think of to the types of problems you are talking about might be the three days we did some similar stuff in Pharm - all about loading doses and maintenance doses, etc. Once you see it done, it's pretty simple.
Best of Luck!
