SMU Official,
Though I have been accepted for the September 2005 class, I was wondering if I would be able to get my visa earlier than September as I look forward to visiting the Cayman Islands, particularly Grand Cayman, this upcoming Spring. In other words, has it been possible to obtain student visas prior to the start of classes. Please inform me regarding this matter. Thanks.

If you have already been accepted for that term you can send in all the information you need for a student visa. While they may process it, it would not go it to effect until the begining of your term. If you want to visit you can do so for up to 30 days on a visitors visa and then you can get extentions for $50 to $100 to stay for longer (along with proof of means to suppot yourself without working).

No, it's not, because part of your immigration packet from us to Cayman immigration is which semester you are accepted for.
If you are a U.S. or Canadian citzen, you only need proof of citzenship (Driver's license and birth certificate, or passport).
However, if your passport is from any of the countries listed at www.gov.ky you generally don't need a visa to enter. The direct link is:
http://www.gov.ky/servlet/page?_pageid=3132&_dad=portal30&_schema=PORTAL30&_ mode=3
Otherwise, you would need to contact your closest British Embassy or Consulate to apply for a tourist visa.

What i meant was visitors stamp. It's the one they put in your passport when you come in. It is only good for 30 days and then has to be extended after that

Dear All,
If you are visiting the Cayman islands on tourist visa, make sure you ask for the entire time you will be here at the airport immigration.
They can stamp you up to three months, but i have seen people getting stamped for 2 days.....(no comments)
Your student visa won;t be issued until you are a student on the island, but as a tourist, you can visit us anytime.....
Send email so we can plan a tour of the facilities
