What should I do? I got a call from admissions telling me to head to Maine if I wanted to attend the January class. I do not have $7900 to give the school and I have very limited information about anything related to the start of school, though I believe it was on Monday? Not certain of what to do but do not be surprised to see me on Friday! I would certainly appreciated some feedback on this matter.

Wow, that is really weird! Is St. Matthews that short on students??? :|

Not to assume you're not qualified, but admitting students AFTER the start of the semester. To any of the school officials: why was this done? :?:

That really doesn't surprise me much. I know plenty of people who were accepted and enrolled a week prior to the start of the Aug 2004 class. (As if there was so much excess space and seats to give away  )

It's still disconcerting and dispiriting though. (No offense, Brien, good luck to you)

Congrats JOBrien!
I've attended Tuesday classes, and really liked what I saw.
Unfortunately, I had to ask for deferment for another semester due to family and health issues. I'm not sure if January class was filled to its max capacitym but it looked pretty full. So, they may have given my seat to You. If that's the case you're in luck. Of course, only You know your situation best. But do what you gotta do, and if You can,get there fast. Too bad I couldn't stay for this semester.

I hope it will work out for You, friend,
Good Luck

Congrats and good luck! I guess you're going to have to show some of your ability to adapt. Survival of the fittest; Baptism by Fire! Contact Financial Aid. Apply for loans. Beg and plead with those dearly beloved for money. (Or just defer til May 05). Then when all is approved and all loose ends rapidly tied... start studying! Post the outcome when you have a chance to come up for air. BTW, how were you contacted? What was your response?

Mr. Frazier contacted me at 3:00 to inform me that I could go to school. Let that be a lesson- dont apply at the last second. I was not able to talk to anyone in fin aid and need to talk to them be4 I can make a decision. I can come up with the necessary funds this semester but subsequent semesters will be considerably more difficult to pay for. Has fin aid implied that there will be a solution to the medachiever crisis some time soon? I appreciate the positive responses from everyone and will post up what happens- I plan on talking to the fin aid people as well as admissions first thing in the AM and then possibly packing the truck and taking off. Thanks agin to you all.

You won't have to worry about paying right away. If you have loans coming they will defer the school costs until then. If you don't have financial aid then your account will incure a $100/week late payment. For TERI, get a co-signer for sure. You can get your books from the bookstore, and charge them to your account. If you're in the dual program(MD/MHSA through St. Joe's College), you can get $9250 in federal loans per semester while doing semesters 1-5. After that the amount only covers tuition. So that would cover half of your costs per semester.

We haven't done that much this week. You haven't missed that much. If you're not a transfer student and you are a 1st semster student you need to read: Histology chapters1,2,3; for Gross Anatomy study osteology and the upper limb (first test on 1/24); Embryology chapters 1,2,3.

Some people are looking for roomates. See this forum and the St. Matthew's official forum. Housing is full at Fairfield. Try Sable Oak Suites. There number is 207-775-39000. Cost at Sable Oaks Suite is $5096/semester, but many people are splitting it.

Good Luck,
Bingo

Great post! Helpful to everyone who is trying to head down this road. Good luck to all of the anxious but eager first semester students!
