hello...
i had an interview with saba last wednesday and it seemed to go well but im still nervous that i will not be accepted...im soooo anxious!
i applied for september 2005, anybody else apply for then?

also, i am interested in saban culture, the history and the way of living! DOES ANYBODY ELSE SHARE THIS INTEREST??
from most of the threads i have read it seems like most people that come to medical schools in the caribbean are 'scared' of anything that is different from the states or canada---
people do not seem very open minded... am i wrong? i do hope so!

Hey Kehar!

I applied back in sept and was accepted for the sept 05 class. I too was nervous after the interview but it all turned out well. Don't worry.

Kehar,
You'll learn a lot on Saba, not just about medicine but different cultures. I've traveled a lot in the past - the cool think about Saba is you can learn so much just by staying in one place.

If you're a friendly person you'll easily meet some of the islanders. I chat with many of them. You're expected to wave or honk at everyone, I pick up people waiting to get a ride across the island, etc etc. Many of the students are like this - it's easy to be this way on Saba.

Some people are afraid of change, some can't wait to get off of the island. I will actually miss the island when I leave.

Shauna? pray tell who is that?

You can't tell the players without a scorecard.

I'm looking forward to arriving on Saba and getting rid of some of my prejudices and paranoia :D

well, thanks for the replies...
now, if (and thats a big IF) i get accepted then i will go to saba with an OPEN MIND -- i will eradicate all these thoughts that linger in my head: that most medical students do not think out of the scientific paradigm and that they have no social conciousness!

any montrealers at saba???

I_I ...then this is where I think -----------------------------> over here!

Note, that since whoever coded this software forgot to code for the spaces properly, then let me explain.... I think outside the box.... lol... just wanted to add some humour

hey val!

well, its nice to know that you think outside the tiny little box you drew!!!
so you are from toronto??? well, thats close enough i suppose!!!
are there a lot of canadians at saba?

i will be attending saba in sept...i want to figure out my financing before march because i want to travel before i start school...do you think this is too soon to start getting loans?
do you have any suggestions as to which banks give the 'best deals" (and the most money)??

I know Teri won't let students apply until four months prior to starting at Saba.
As far as banks giving the best deals, I'd like to know that, too!

All I know about banks is that Royal Bank seems to be very willing to give out line of credits to medical students. My branch is very small and they know me there by name, so when they found out that I was going to medical school, the first thing they asked was if I wanted a 100,000 line of credit.... that was 2 years ago, and today I think they actually give 150,000 line of credits. Also, the terms of the line of credit are subject to the branch a lot of the time, so sometimes you can negotiate a much lower interest rate. That's all I know.

Hey guys. My name is Salman and I was recently accepted to the Sept. 05 class. :D I ll be coming in from New Orleans, LA. Its been really helpful reading the forums here - I've gotten a lot of information already. But still somethings I'am uncertain about.. so basically I mite ask some questions.
By the way, do any of you know Kirshma? She and I went to college together and shes in the Jan 05 class now. Shes the one who actually told me about SABA.
Anyways, see ya'll around.

Feel free to post your questions to Value MD and people will try to answer them to the best of their abilities. Also, could you please try to look for answers first via the SEARCH button at the top of the page, because you will quickly find that most topics have been discussed to death. If you are confussed, or can't find something though, feel free to ask.... there is always someone browsing this thing with an answer to give.

Hey Kehar, nice to meet you. I actually finished up my Masters in Cell and Molecular Bio as well at Tulane Univ. Currently I am doing research at LSU Med school. We are working on the developing somatosensory Cortex in the mamallian brain. Our link to clinical applications deals with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.. I enjoy working there, but I definetly want to move on to med school. Well if I have any questions after using the search option, I'll ask you or Val..
Take care,
Salman
