Yes, Happy Holidays everyone.
Poor ducman, your missing the cold weather up here in TN right now (it's only 23 degrees). I have no right to complain, some of the Canadians have told me that it's been below zero up there.
Are you settled on the island yet? Anything you foresee we'll need to ship before getting down there?
... some of the canadians have said it is below zero!!!??? ... being Canadian, I am left to ponder ... which Canadian would say such a thing???!!!
... Let me tell you something about the Canadians ... when you talk about language, there are two types of Canadians, those who live in Quebec (french) and those that live in the rest of Canada (non-french)... when you talk about politics ... there are two types of Canadians ... those that live in the west (Republican) and those that live in the rest of Canada (democrates) ... and when you talk about winters ... there are two types of Canadians those that live in Vancouver (winter temperatures -5 to +15 C ... i.e. shorts and sandal weather) and those that live in the rest of Canada (-15 to -40 C ... this does not include a windshield factor) ...
... so yes ... -5 is below zero ... however -15 is not ... it is freezing your nuts off!!! ... as such my guess is the Canadians you were talking to are from the West Coast of Canada ... more specifically from Vancouver.
Merry Christmas ... and Season Greetings ...

Hi classic!
Yeah, we just finished speaking with the family in Atlanta and we are definitely not missing the cold weather!! It has been warm & pleasant here this whole week - rains for a quick five minutes most evening.
Things to bring:
1) LOTS OF PATIENCE!!
2) Separate your clothing between your carry-on and checked in baggage as one of your bags may be delayed. It shall eventually arrive - the guys at the Saba airport are great, but I do not know how people can misplace bags in St. Maarten when there are only about 15 bags going on a little plane! (Make sure you pack a couple of days of clothes including underwear in your carry on...in case that your main luggage gets lost or delayed..!) Mine did..and I eventually got it back.
3) Space bags have helped us tremendously. Remember that the bags only condense space and they do not decrease the weight of your luggage. In any case they are worth the investment!!!
4) Anything that you enjoy eating..you can probably find here in the grocery. However, the prices are higher. So if there is something that you absolutely have to eat...bring it. (American name brands items are higher.)
5) The same goes for toiletries..if you are particular with shampoos and hair care items..you may want to bring those items as well.
6) Digital cameras-there are no photo processing stores here.
7) MP3 Player and earplugs as you will be around others.
8) Do not bring loose photographs or anything that is special or memorable as it may get damaged from the humidity unless framed.
9) First aid kit and any medication that you take!!! Important!
10) If you are a hiker, you may want to bring proper gear as the trails are a great escape. The same goes for snorkeling.
Happy Travels & See You Soon!

And sincerely, I am really scared that I almost decided to postpone my trip! Glad to know that you guys are almost settled. I guese you ain't bored yet given that Ducman is still very much around. Enjoy yourselves, and hope to see you next weekend.

Thanks for the quick reply!! I'd forgotten about packing my hiking boots, thanks for the reminder. So is it that Winair has two checked bags less than 70lbs and one carry-on? I think that's right. (DID YOU NOTICE IF THEY HAVE PANTENE SHAMPOO AT THE STORE?)
Ducman's wife===> How cool is that!!!

Well, herbal essence tends to dry my hair out, but whatever I'm going to Saba to get an education=not a date. I may just shave my head and buy a hat! :omg:

Scoo, I'm from Tennessee so I'm not too familiar with Canada (unless you count all those Wildlife shows my dad use to make me watch. I can tell you a little bit about Kodiak bears and elk).

Val, hope you had a good Xmas - we have still been slammed unpacking all of these boxes. Hope Jerry got out OK this morning.

thank you... I went out with some local friends for Christmas dinner cause I was all alone here after the little Parade left this morning.... was that ever a lot of stuff that Jerry took with him... :( This place is too quiet now... if you guys want to come over and use the pool, I am here today (Sunday) for my last day. Otherwise, Monday morning I am off.... to the freezing cold... lol... there is no chance of getting into a pool up in Canada... just a hot tub...
Merry X-Mas again
