How much time do you have off between semesters? Do people normally fly home?

My wife and kids would be in Pittsburgh during my 20mos stay.

I don't know of anyone who has stayed on the island for the entire time. There might be in other classes, but none in mine.

As for answering your question. you get a bit over 2 weeks during the xmas break and a little less than 2 weeks during your other breaks.

I left every break. I needed my sanity....and Starbucks. It is kind of pricy but cheaper with advanced notice. They have pretty good deals. I usually flew to California for around 500.

Unless you have severe budget constraints....it is worth the money to get the hell away and recharge. It is probably the only thing that kept me sane as I marked days off the calendar until I was home!!

I dunno, the "Spring" break seems mighty short. You'll spend half the time in the airport.

I stayed here over christmas because part of my family came down to visit. I won't be going home in april because the other half will be coming for vacation then... So I guess I won't be setting foot in the U.S. for an entire year. Oh, well. It really isn't so bad.

On the other hand, I am here with my wife, so my true "family" is here with me. If I was in your position where I was away from my family, I might try and get home at least once during the break, at least for a weekend.

As for me, I'll probably eventually return home with a caribbean accent and all basic logic skills gone because I have been trapped here so long. If only I lived in florida, like the skipper, I could almost put on my flippers and swim home.

I assume the fast moving U.S.A. will be hard to get used to after I have been accustomed to SXM for an entire year. I think the freeway will probaby be terrifying. A few days ago I got really daring and got my car up to 90 kilometers per hour on the french side, then it broke :(
